FFXI Ballista sucked. Then it got cool. Then it got really really cool. Then it got so popular that they had a one-time event, Ballista Royale (which I lost, /cry).

Then it sucked again.

I need to Guillotine some unsuspecting Ninja, or MS Rampage a certain Taru RDM who casts every debuff on me before I even engage him.
These are the days I missed. Maybe some of you feel the same. Maybe some of you dont. But PvP needs to be re-invented for ffxiv in some way/shape/form. It actually was a load of fun for those who participated in it regularly. if you didn't enjoy Ballista, at least share some ideas on how you think it could be better in FFXIV, or what avenues of PvP could be implemented.

Cuz Brenner, Pankration, and whatever other bullshit that came after Ballista were awful ideas.

We have enough PvP MMO games to play if thats what people want. Keep Final Fantasy PVE.

Every MMO needs some form of PvP. When people start to get tired of campaigning and leveling there needs to be something to fall back on to keep the game from getting too boring. The game won't be PvP based, but will still need something.

Yeah something acceptably recreational. I would think thats the ultimate form of challenge: pitting your skills and accomplishments against your friends and foes (who are also manually controlled, not CPU based actions). Not entirely something that FFXIV would necessarily revolve around. More of like a game or sport, popular enough to hold peoples attention and offer a short-lived satisfaction (much like everything else in a video game), but nothing super time consuming or reward based, where the use of the sport would become the need for camping for more points or highest rank.

I'd like to think they'd include some PvP into the game. Camping `NMs against others seems like a very time consuming form of Player v Player, if thts what I can technically call it. Plus killing people is always fun :/

I personally miss the old Final Fantasy coliseum battle setups. Where you could fight monsters as well~ Was an interesting time sink.

I wish they'd do that in XI.

Keep PvP out of my PvE.

Thank you Squeenix for saying that you do not care about PvP and will not be developing it until later, only if people QQ for a few years.

<3

Edit: You want PvP? Go beat up a fat kid in real life.

Well according to the recent news, one of the starting cities (I think it was the castle, not Limsa, not Gridaria the other one @_@) will have a coliseum. PvP re-inVented? A Battle Arena for fighting and advancing monsters (similar to ff7 Battle Arena). The truth is left to be seen.

XIV needs PvP, it's the thing i care most about in a video game... that's great that someone and all their little carebear pals can kill a durgan and cut his eye lids off and wear them as pants- the carebear loves it... But me beating the pants off that carebear- i love it.

I actually liked the match ups for FFXI too... no, none of it was balance, yes there were things that could be done in PvE that shouldn't be able to happen in PvP, but i liked the idea of a monk fighting a samurai... or a thief... or any class. Getting Gladiator as a rogue and playing Ret to 2500(2s)/2400(3s)/2200(5s) was kool and all... but regardless of the fist weapons i used... i could never be a monk in wow.

I know that most of the Final Fantasy, or any RPG for that matter, players are spineless and lack any real sense of competition... but for those of us that do like to compete, and strive to get better outside of fighting CPUs... that is where real progress is made.

And if you bring up competition by NM hunting, yea, you have an argument there. In FFXI one of my sources of income was claiming NMs for a price. But that still doesn't beat the beating that one friend or rival can give to another.

For the love of violence, competition, and the fight, put good PvP in FFXIV!

Quoted for the motherfucking truth. Brings tears to my eyes to see others with the same mindset as me.

I don't think there'll be any kind of competitive PvP in FFXIV. I really wish there would be, but I really doubt SE is capable of perfectly balancing every class for it. It's a hard thing to do, something Blizzard is always struggling with.

i just really dont get why people dont want PvP but whatever, to all of those people, they need to have a setting so people cant engage you or have to ask before they do. or better yet, just a PvP server. Theres nothing more to love than having a stressful day, logging on, tired of doing the SAME O SAME O, not wanting to do anything except run outside and beat THE FUCK out of the ugliest most annoying characters, meaning anything under 3 damn feet tall.

i would love a colluseum like in aion, but would also prefer to just walk up to someone and offer a battle.
and have your wins/losses recorded into your character info for others too see [:

I agree there isn't much skill involved with corresponding with the computer (pve boils down to: computer says it's pushing button A so you push A too and you 'can' win) and people still fail at it.

Crying that pvp will ruin a game or that it sucks is are words of those that can't adapt, anticipate, plan ahead, and can't understand how to make the best of a situation or suck at team work. Anyone who pvp knows this truth.

You can repeat a process/routine against a mob, but what if that mob wises up and REALLY defends itself?

Welcome to PvP.
