"Good job ripping someone's comment from Gamespot...
Speaking of which, I just read on Gamespot that Sakaguchi is thinking of retiring after this one. "
Didn't read the article, but good job at trying to be a douche.
The Last Story Hironobu Sakaguchi's latest game for the Wii.

Yea he said that when he made Final Fantasy also. He didn't directly say it either, if sales in Last Story are great and the reviews are good, I have no doubt he will continue his work. It is deja vu all over again. I think it is really up to us if he leaves or not, but he said his team is putting 120% into this game, and I know he will do good work on this.
I don't think he so much planned to retire after Final Fantasy...its more that Square was going out of business, and "retiring" is the fancy corporate phrase meaning "I won't have a job anymore." The whole reason they named it "Final Fantasy" is because they expected it to be the last game they'd ever be able to afford making; just so happened that it ended up saving the company by being a massive commercial success.
It's not really up to us if he'll stay or not, because the game could be a massive success and he could easily decide that's exactly what he wants to end his career with -- or it could fail and he could think he's too old for the business and quit from there. It could go either way, and it's completely up to him.
Meanwhile -- the similarities to Final Fantasy with this game are pretty much directly linked to the fact that its Sakaguchi. Beating the subject is like driving at BlazBlue being similar to Guilty Gear, or Bayonetta being similar to Devil May Cry -- When an artist draws two pictures, 9 times out of 10 you're going to be able to tell its the same artist. Even being on the Wii, I expect this game to be pretty solid.

We fucking get it.
EDIT:
One interesting element of the Final Fantasy franchise that I hate that they lost touch with: All of the stories are supposed to culminate into a total ending for the world's conflicts. All of these spin-offs and sequels are almost a direct contradiction with the basic principles they started following following FF1 -- namely the idea that each game is a chronicling of the final story that takes place in that respective world.
Its sad they lost touch with that; because keeping that in mind during the writing of some of the more recent games would have helped them --- and saved us from having 6 games all based on the same storyline...

Not to be mean, but that is a pretty big "duh" factor right there. It is pretty obvious that someone in their mid 20's at the time is not going to "retire", I am aware what he meant by it. Like I said, it is deja vu all over again, the only difference is, if Last Story is a success or not, he has money to fall back on if he does decide to retire (at age 47). If you read his blogs, articles, and twitters, you would know that he is very passionate about his work and I am still lead to believe if this is a major success, he will continue his work. So yes, it is up to us and the sales if this is his last game or not. Japan went crazy over Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, don't see Last Story falling from this concept.
