At first I was like  with hopes Square could save the franchise...

But then I was like :( when I realized not even they could do it.

I really liked Legend and Anniversary, and Underworld was alright, but... I dunno about the direction they're taking the series now, maybe they should just put Lara down for good. :(

I might play it. Since Diablo 3 isn't going to come out until 2045 at this rate.

I haven't really enjoyed Tomb Raider since Last Revelation. Whenever they try to end a series, realize it was a huge cash cow and that they made a mistake, and try to revive it, the revival never goes well. Legend and Underworld were extremely mediocre. Puzzles weren't really all that challenging, They really tried to focus to much on her new abilities and mechanics, which were nice, but they minimized the old mechanics that made the PS1 games so much fun. Angel of Darkness was almost OK. But they whole abilities level up thing ruined it. The other thing that bugged me to hell and back about L and U were that they tried to implement melee combat... which for Lara, it just doesn't go over that well. Lara Croft can fight, sure, but she was never about the brawn. A woman, no matter how bad ass she is, is not going to realistically going to deliver a bare-handed smack down on tigers, giant spiders, 8 foot tall undead vikings, or 100 badguys with guns. She's not Wonder Woman or Super Girl.

Another thing that really irritated me was how stripped down the games got. In the early Tomb Raiders, you started with the Unlimited Ammo pistols, and that was it. They were weak, and only fired at a medium speed, but were reliable. As you played and explored, you were rewarded with different guns and ammo, as well as medipacs. That's what encouraged you to really explore in Tomb Raider was the need to find all that shit cause you were gonna have to fight crap between each puzzle. But in the most recent ones, there was almost nothing to fight, the only guns you ever needed were the pistols, and you started with all the available guns, which all had finite ammo and no clear advantage to use over the pistols, especially since once they were used up, there were no places to restore their ammo the rest of the stage. So essentially, there was 0 reason to actually explore in those games. They were seriously linear. And the story wasn't good enough to try and push straight through anyway. They only encouragement to explore were crappy little tokens, which in Legend rewarded you with extra costumes which was marginally reason enough, but in Underworld, they didn't do jack.

I was REALLY hoping SE could fix Tomb Raider after they got Eidos... But no... The series is just to messed up and caught up in gimmicky crap. Lara doesn't need the Bullet time shit. She doesn't need melee combat, especially with infinite ammo pistols as her default weapon. She doesn't need a damn side kick.

By far and away though, the #1 thing that ruined the Tomb Raider franchise was the movies. They both sucked really bad, and then they tried to make the games like the movie... Which games based off movies suck, and movies based off games suck... so they've only squared the damage by making a game based off a movie that's based off a game. Seriously. What. The. Fuck? Who thought that was a good idea?

Where's the fun in just admitting that? You're supposed to vehemently deny there was a typo, then we argue for a bit, then there's some name calling, ???, profit. You should know how this works by now :(
