XIV "Alpha 2" Participants Picked + more Rate Topic: -----

Famitsu has an interview with team Final Fantasy XIV this week. Here's a summary of the bullet points that were listed at Game Jouhou:

-The Beta version will see some system changes that will make it so that you can more easily string together your attacks.
-The alpha test had bad tempo with insufficient explanations. They've made some revisions to the beta, resulting in a completely different system.
-It will be easier to save up Gil.
-You remember that amazing comparison shot showing how much better the beta looks compared to the alpha? It seems that the beta uses a different technique for its shadows. The alpha version used something called "Project Shadows" while the beta version uses "Depth Buffer Shadows."
-The city of Limsa Lominsa will have two levels.
-There will be a robust log filter in place. This is something that wasn't finished in time for the alpha.
-They're readying something large scale for your home, which functions like FFXI's Mog House.
-They'll soon be adding alpha testers as part of the new "alpha 2" phase. They've already selected the participants via drawing!
-As you play the game, you'll be able to freely change the god that you select during character making.
-Vehicles for FFXIV include Chocobo, horse driven carriage, boat, and air ship.
-You'll be able to select different colors for your equipment.

That part about the gil worries me... the economy was horrible in FFXI and gil was really hard to come by. Everything else looks great though :)

Yeah, making money was something that needed improved upon over this game. Earning money in WoW was very easy compared to FFXI and the economy wasn't bad.

I always liked the chocobo design of FFXI the most out of all FF games so far. I hope they keep the design similar :3

How does the fact that they plan to make it easier worry you?

The shadow difference looks great, will be nice to do the second alpha phase once they start it.

EDIT: BTW, epic on color changing gear, haha.

Thier meaning of easier would be like getting 100 gil extra per item sold per npc or something.

while stuff like dyna glass would start out as 2 mil.

Just wait and see what they mean by easier to obtain gil.

For all we know, what they mean is that you hit the call button and a leprechaun magically appears out of no where and craps out the gil you need to afford an armor.

They mean easier to get get as in my character is level 20, has 50k on him, and has spent another 50k in gear upgrades for several classes without selling anything. EVER.

vari you broke,

though i have a fealing that once they add in durability and repair npc's our surpluss of gil will no longer be an issue.

i got 241k problems and gear aint one.

for someone who plays this game pretty regularly and seriously, you critisize the parent company quite often. It's like complaining about a headache, and doing nothing about it.

Don't get me wrong, them making it easier to save up gil is great! I was just worried they felt they needed to mention it, which means it started out as more of the same.. which means SE didn't feel the need to tune their grinds towards a western audiance, which means we may get another grindy Asian game.

I'm not in Alpha so I don't have much room to talk.. just worried the gil situation won't be stable.
