Equipment 40+ Jujitsu vs Luisant

Hello everyone.

I am going to start to level NIN again soon, and was looking through the AH for possible equipment I need. And I came up with Luisant. Ive seen NINs fulltime haubergeon in xp parties, so I thought maybe Luisant should replace Jujitsu Gi at 45? Also, should I fulltime sarutobi Kyahan or perhaps use Fed Kyahan instead and macro in Sarutobi only for utsu recasts? Or maybe fulltime Sarutobi when I get more haste gear available? (at lv50 perhaps - swift belt)

I had a Luisant Haubert around for weaponskills, but I wouldn't full-time it. These Ninjas you see wearing Haubergeon full-time, are they 75? 'cause I tried that route frequently leveling to 75 and it was not pretty. Oh, it's pretty negligible on Lesser Colibri at level 60 since those birds should be exploding the second they hit camp, but if you're trying to tank normal Colibri at level 61 in a Haubergeon, you're going to get your intestines pulled out your throat. And let's no one pretend that this situation does not happen.

As for Sarutobi Kyahan, I kept them on. The difference either way is going to be pretty negligible if you're tearing through mobs (which isn't hard in the 40s), but you really grow to enjoy even the small bit of Haste when in a party that is sluggish. I think I actually used Quick Belt as well, just because I wasn't fighting pink birds (spent several levels out in Altepa) and could use Marinara Pizza. Plus, Tilt Belt falls into that same problem of having -Evasion. Turtling up behind major +Evasion isn't really all that effectual, although it isn't that bad through the 40s if you want to spam the wheel instead of relying on melee for Enmity, but killing your Evasion for small gains like 5 Accuracy or the nominal stat boosts on Luisant Haubert is probably not a good idea.

When I leveled SAM, I (and some others in my ls who are adamantly against gearing defensively for XP) actually found it easier to tank while wearing a Scorp Harness instead of Haub 60+. Main point being, trading off smaller offensive bonuses for massive defensive ones is generally a good idea as a tank.

depends on the setup pre-73, i think. these days you can set up zerg parties before level 75, and thus it may be beneficial to put on a haubergeon to attract attention/deal damage

its so rare to see a conventional party these days rather than a full on zerg, (im sorta okay with that, but it also makes being a tank that much harder)
when i levelled nin though, getting gear wasnt as easy as it was now, so i basically borrowed a scorpion harness for a good year or so.

thank you Evosheep!

On another note, I have a few questions about enmity. My NIN is 58 at the moment, and going higher at a steady rate. I will use it at endgame where possible, as I want to learn all the tricks of the trade this job has to over. Now, my question... Eris's Earring +1? Worth it? Its 600K in my server, should I get 1 or 2? Only macrod in for voke? Better options? Also, Id appreciate a list of the Best/most useful enmity gear used by NIN veterans for endgame.

You should get two and only macro them in for enmity actions. Otherwise be using something that will add damage if DDing or reduce damage if not.

Regarding Enmity gear, I macro'd that stuff in for any offensive action where I could rely on having nothing better in that slot. Meaning, when I would cast Kurayami: Ni and Hojo: Ni after my initial Provoke, as well as for Warcry eventually. Ninja is very macro-intensive to play to its maximum.

Can't offer any endgame stuff since I've simply not played Ninja enough in that, but leveling up I made extensive use of my Gothic Gauntlets and Sabatons, Nokizaru Gi and Hakama, eventually my Arhat's gear, Eris' Earrings, and whatever else I could get my hands on. Once you're out of the 50s, not only is hate harder to handle, but mobs start getting tougher. At least, they did for me, since I was so often in lousy groups that overcamped and didn't bring along a sufficient backline.

Yeah, i realise NIN is very macro-based when it comes to enmity. I just got myself some NQ earrings, since I think it would be a better investment to get HQ Arhat's gear, and then maybe in a future upgrade the NQ earring to HQ. I was actually thinking of not using the Nokizaru Gi for enmity as I dont really like blinking, especially as often as I will with NIN. But then really, I am going to eventually once I am high enough for Arhat's... so might as well start now.

What is it with people fearing that their character model gets reloaded? I do not understand this. Good healers can keep a person alive even without the use of <stpt> macros, bad healers are gonna get you killed no matter what you do. Change the gear and roll with the punches.

Still, blinking at the wrong moment can cost you a cure3 or 4, and ultimately death in the worst case scenario.

That being said, I am in now ways saying you shouldnt change gears, be it from TP to WS, Eva, enmity or whatever. These things should be done no matter what for different purposes... That is, if you want to be a good player. Like Pathwriter said, a bad healer, will get you killed no matter what you do.
