ear1 "Colossus's Earring";
hands "Denali Wristbands";
body "Arhat's Gi +1";
ring1 "Jelly Ring";
ring2 "Defending Ring";
neck "Shield Collar";
head "Arh. Jinpachi +1";
ear2 "Eta Earring";
back "Shadow Mantle";
waist "Warwolf Belt";
legs "Dst. Subligar +1";
feet "Dst. Leggings +1";
ammo "Bibiki Seashell";
main "Kuina";
sub "Kuina";

If you actually take the time to build 2 Kuina's with 5% and 4 VIT each this whole set comes out to:

48% damage reduction +24 VIT, and still maintain our A- weapon.

Pretty nifty if you are lucky enough to own all that stuff.
Add a Tavnazian Taco and Protect and you are looking at a Ninja who is very hard to kill when shadows are down, let alone up!

May as well post the Magic Defense set I dreamed up as well:

http://www.ffxiah.co...ts.php?id=73713

hands "Denali Wristbands";
ranged "Lamian Kaman +1";
head "Storm Turban";
body "Kirin's Osode";
main "Kuina";
waist "Resolute Belt";
back "Lamia Mantle +1";
ear1 "Merman's Earring";
ear2 "Merman's Earring";
ring1 "Minerva's Ring";
ring2 "Defending Ring";
sub "Kuina";
legs "Sangoma Lappa";
neck "Jeweled Collar +1";
feet "Suzaku's Sune-Ate";

This one has -24% magic damage reduction, "Magic Defense Bonus"+ 20, +38 MND and +17 INT.

Same deal with the Katana's gotta make the Kuina's have "Magic Defense Bonus" +5 and MND +4 each.
Not as impressive as the Physical damage reduction but still pretty nice.

Not to be a douche, but why is this the least bit useful? If your shadows are down.. You shouldn't be swinging.

Swap out those useless katanas for an Earth Staff, toss on a Patronus Ring and some -4% PDT ASA pants, and you'll hit the actual cap.

^ not gonna comment at this, since you are a douche.

Actually Dynamis and Limbus come to mind, since you can actually melee there. So I guess I did comment on your douch'iness.

I don't give a fuck how good a ninja you think you are, there are always times when shadows are down and you gotta eat hits. Whole premise behind that type of set of armor anyway.

edit: If I had my pick of anything in the game for staff tanking this would be my defense set:

Hmm... since you'll be swapping Katanas to improve your PDT, you'll lose your TP anyway, so Kaparu's suggestion of using Earth's/Terra's to hit the cap while shadows are down seems more beneficial to me, since you won't really be meleeing much in that setup, but trying to get shadows back up instead.
Also, for lower end stuff, wouldn't an all out Evasion setup be more useful? You could make two of those nifty Evasion katanas, which together add AGI+8 and Evasion+24, which is an extreme bonus, in my opinion.

I suspect I'd use Seiryu's Kote over Denali Wristbands.

1st off... for limbus etc, evasion is going to reduce damage taken more. if you can floor their acc, you'll have an 80% evade rate, which is more than 50% you can get via pdt...

Secondly, your "dream pdt set" has like no hp in it... you'll have around 1250 hp, and you're stacking so much vit it's stupid.

Anywhere you'd need a pdt set, you'd need sushi and a very good accuracy build to see any sort of resonable accuracy. Katanas suck on hnms, so do Katana weaponskills.
you'd gain nothing from missed hits and/or hits for 0-3 damage, so it's ultimately pointless. Why do you think people started using E.staff in the first place?

Well, the purpose of this set would be to melee hnms with these katanas while using /drk or /rdm. As Konda pointed out, your WS on HNMs will be really limited damage.
However, we have Blade: Kamu that adds an interesting acc down effect. Thing is, acc down works with evasion, so in the end, I think you're better going with double evasion Kuinas if you're trying to melee HNMs. 100ish evasion gear + Kurayami + Kamu acc down effect + Yonin in his first 30s (used as a panic button in a sentinel fashion) should take you close or over 200 evasion. After this, I think it depends on the mob: some HNMs will definitely miss you, some won't miss you much, so you have to adjust to the situation and which buffs/debuffs are active/inactive.

I'm quite confused about the MDT set.
MND doesn't reduce magic damage taken in most cases. Magic is one stat Vs itself. There are only a few Mnd based spells (Holy Banish Dia and maybe some blue spells), but most of the time you're facing INT based nukes, so you need Int to lower the damage taken.

I also like the "dream" sets concepts, but we gotta be realistic as well. Stuff like D.Ring and Minerva ring are out of reach for most people, which leads to forced choices in other slots, which means more limited gear-sets in the end :/

I did not start this topic as necessarily a good idea to replace standard tanking methods with this set, I did however find it cool that we could make a 48% pdt set with out having to use a gimp weapon to do it. And I just realized if you take the subligar out and replace it with ASA legs you can reach 50% as well. Forgive me for taking a second to think outside the box.

edit: sorry ASA legs would put you at 49%, but in light weather you can reach 50% lol. You guys act like you would be in that set during an entire fight which is kinda funny. I might not have picked the best alternatives in the slot's without %dr gear but you guys act like I just shot you mother or something.

Also the above set (when shadow timers are down) would be really handy for solo.... You know something we are known to do a lot of as ninja. >.>

Long story short if I ever have a chance to get the other almost impossible to get items in that set, you can bet your ass I will be hard at work on building those custom katanas.

I take back my earlier statement. I don't care if I was being a douche or not, you're an idiot. Stop worrying about collecting rare pieces of armor to complete useless sets and listen to the suggestions of the people who know actually what they're talking about.

And I realize this is going to fall on deaf ears, but ninja has absolutely no place in non-boss Limbus zones. Its a perfectly adequate tanking job for pretty much every larger target in this game(including Omega/Ultima), but Limbus farming is about compacting your groups as much as possible so that you can clear a zone in a predetermined time period. Taking a second-class DD is silly.

Edit: Grammah

Never stopped me from going. Back-up tank just in case, usually DD. Occasionally, like on a kings run, I've main tanked. That was before I was able to bring Tikki into Limbus. Yes, yes, fucking lolsmn, I've heard that a hundred times too. If we can beat it in a timely fashion who cares. It's not like Limbus is hard.

BLM, RDM, and SCH are the only jobs that belong in that zone, and at the absolute most, only two of them. With practice and good gear you can get a near 100% success rate solo, but if you're not comfortable doing so, a duo consisting of any of those jobs would really have to try to fail.

SE is really the only Apollyon zone that a melee(emphasis on the "a") belongs in, but like I said, ninja is far from the ideal choice.

Edit: And you're absolutely right, Limbus isn't the least bit difficult. All the more reason that people shouldn't be wasting time farming any zone with more than three people.

Yes, well, back here on planet reality as we like to call it, not everyone has blm, rdm or sch. Shall we just tell them all to fuck off and let the mages have the zone? No. Not by a long shot. Not everyone plays the game to have only the ultimate combination in absolutely everything you do. Sometimes other people want to actually play the game. Amazing, isn't it. And you know what? They get shit done.

Yup! And significantly slower than people who value their time.

I'm not telling you to go six-man Tiamat. Limbus is extraordinarily simple, and even if soloing isn't your bag, its perfectly acceptable to go with a friend to farm a zone. But I suppose the reality of the situation is that its a waste of time trying to convince a casual to do Limbus without an alliance.

Moving on.

Kaparu you really are an arrogant vacuum of human waste and to reiterate you are a douche.

I feel like I want to say more, or to suggest that having a variety of gear sets will ultimately better your play experience, AS A NINJA.

But some how I feel like it will just fall on DEAF ears. >.>

edit: I didn't even mention fucking tanking to begin with in the OP. Kaparu must just be so l33t with his mage jobs he doesn't see any merit in using anything else.

I guess we should see how fast we can make this turn into a PLD > NIN thread.

Holy time machine, Batman.

The guy who thinks hybrid katanas are useful says I'm arrogant for suggesting that taking unnecessary bodies to Limbus is a waste of time?

lol

No I am saying you are a waste of flesh and need to drop off the face of the planet mostly. I am not the only person here suggesting you are arrogant, you are just too stupid to actually realize it.

Why don't you go bot some more HNM's and get the fuck out of my thread.
