Looks like they're ditching most - if not all - of the supernatural elements of the franchise. Only main character not mentioned is Liu Kang. Looks very interesting.

It does look interesting and will be neat to see what direction they are taking in the series, I am sure it will at least be better than the 2nd film they had the balls to call a movie.
But isn't the supernatural element of the violence what people loved about Mortal Kombat? Also, this movie looks like it is trying hard to be serious, when MK has never been known to be serious, more of a comical game in some sort of serious way.
None-the-less, I am intrigued.

it looks promising. the trailer is a mini-movie in itself.

I kind of rolled my eyes when I saw this at first... but then after seeing the trailer, I gotta say, I'm actually rather impressed. It looks good.

I'm thinking the trailer was just hiding the supernatural elements. I think the "Get over here!" at the end was meant to show you that they'll still be there. Even if they aren't though, this looks good.

very intriguing..
it seems they're really ditching the supernatural / otherworld elements from the MK franchise and focusing on characters. In essence it is doing the exact opposite of what the original MK movies did - they stayed true to the franchise. Strangely that was what helped MK's movie succeed and not bomb like other video game movie adaptations of its time.
What I think this MK movie aims to do, and I think its more of a non-canon standalone adaptation is focus on character relations and the gore of Mortal Kombat. There'll be all the headslicing and blades and shit, but probably no ghoul flames and soul sucking..
I can see it coming together as a sort of fight movie with no-holds-barred face offs ala Kill Bill.. sort of.. in terms of gore.
Might be interesting.

I fucking hate creative license in Hollywood... I can't help but think this is gonna be dreadful... Reptile is a fishman...? Reptile is my favorite character, and that right there ruined it well ahead of time.

Well, looks like this isn't actually a film in production. Jeri Ryan explained that it was essentially a demo a director made to show off to Warner Bros. regarding what he would do with the franchise.
Fuck. They need to hire this man.
Here Is the article explaining it. Makes sense. A quick look at imdb.com reveals.... Absolutely nothing. No mention of it on Ryan nor White's pages. If this is something the director (Kevin Tancharoen, who directed last year's Fame remake and had something to do with Dr. Horrible) can do on his own, I can only imagine this with an actual budget.
You can rest your sphincter, sir. This isn't real (yet). However, I'm curious as to how you ascertained Reptile is a fish man... Since the trailer made no mention of anything having to do with fish...

950,000+ views as of this morning.
It's an impressive trailer/teaser/whatever. I liken it to the reboot of Batman-- grittier, darker, realistic. It does show promise though and I wouldn't mind seeing this in the theatres someday. I enjoyed the Mortal Kombat series before and this is a welcome change given the rehashes and bad video game-to-movie adaptations lately in the past several years. And, let's not forget the CGI overloaded movies and 3D-forced-down-your-throat movies as of late. (Avatar not included...)

I'm a long time fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise, and I think this is an excellent way to re-launch it - not just the movies, but the games as well. Sure, people may bitch that it "isn't Mortal Kombat", but ever since Resident Evil 4 I find myself more and more open to seeing the games & movies I love redefined.
This is a great idea. I'd love to see this movie become a reality and of all the ways someone could think up to reboot Mortal Kombat, this has to be among the best.

http://en.wikipedia....type_ichthyosis
And then the description of Ichthyosis: is a heterogeneous family of at least 28[1], generalized, mostly genetic skin disorders. All types of ichthyosis have dry, thickened, scaly or flaky skin.[1] In many types the skin is said to resemble the scales on a fish; the word ichthyosis comes from the Ancient Greek ιχθύς (ichthys), meaning "fish."[2] The severity of symptoms can vary enormously, from the mildest types such as ichthyosis vulgaris which may be mistaken for normal dry skin up to life-threatening conditions such as harlequin type ichthyosis. The most common type of ichthyosis is ichthyosis vulgaris, accounting for more than 95% of cases.[3]
I Got fishman because Ichthy means fish in greek prefixes and I have a biology background so I know a lot of origin words.
So by way of the MOMENT they named the disease they wanted to say he had, I drew on the Ichthy part to get: Fishman. Hence, they did in fact imply it in the trailer. If you even look at his face in the trailer, it looks more fish than even amphibian or reptilian.

If they are delving into MK II as well as 1 video game character wise (Assuming since Baraka and Jax(cks) are in it) then they forgot Kano from 1. If you want to get technical then you could say that they are missing Melina, Kitana, and Kung Lao also. We all know its a 'heres what we can do' trailer and it isnt really important to show ALL of the characters but this is teh internetz damnit!
My opinion on the trailer: Interesting, it might be worth a theater ticket.

We'll just assume you suffered from some kind of severe traumatic cerebral event. Because other than inbreeding and southern public schools, there's no reason to be this fucking stupid.
