Sorry Konda, I'm perfectly aware that ninja was a suitable tank up until today, but paladin is simply getting far too much for ninja to be worth anyone's time for more dangerous targets.

What are "dangerous targets" at this point? I mean, there's Pandemonium Warden and Absolute Virtue, but bringing them into a discussion is sort of like saying that all cars are dangerous and then using a drunken idiot in a Formula 1 racer as your example. Other than that, virtually everything else in the game has been effectively tanked by Samurai, Dark Knight, or Monk in addition to Paladin and Ninja, so I find it a little hard to imagine that a situation where a Samurai can hold its own is going to be one where a Ninja is a flailing, ineffectual failure.

But, of course, I agree with you that Paladin has been given way too much in terms of easy-moding the job. Come to that, this isn't the only game that has a bad habit of making Paladins absurdly overpowered. What the hell is up with that? Anyhow, we don't really know what Walk of Echoes and Abyssea have yet to bring, so maybe I'll be made to eat my words and the only job with sufficient durability to survive key NMs that everyone will want to fight will be Paladin. If that's the case, I'd be rather disappointed. My excitement for FFXIV is already ice cold, but that would bury any faith in SE to produce a balanced and fun game.

I thought you'd be proud of me, Patrick. By "dangerous targets", I'm referring to more traditional HNM that I would generally throw a DD/NIN at, and most people throw more standard tanks at.

Having a discussion based on the audience in lieu of basing it on my own practices, etc.

Before we turn this into subtle blow, let's just sit back and wonder what;ll happen. There's also more enmity gear so if they DIDN'T adjust it, then ninja hate would fly higher, faster, and be easier to maintain so I for one understands this.

...unless it becomes marzuka'ed.

yea nin tanking is basically fucked against targets you'd traditionally use nin/drk against

I didn't see the new values just yet. Maybe nin/drk might get patched later for all we know. Sometimes they don't do stuff right the first time around. Expecting 1 tank and 17 other m'fers to choose from to actually get around and enjoy the game seems a bit far fetched if this is what SE is intending.

I kinda see them adding more tanking tools to war sam drk and maybe mnk these days. At least enough to make them decent alternatives. I don't mind having a wider variety of tanking jobs to be honest, I just wish they would at least give ninja some kind of an idea as to what specific direction they want us to follow. It is a very mixed bag of signals we are getting right now.

how is pld overpowered in FFXI? i thought that view was in wow because they could do damage or main heal or tank depending what they want to do

how is pld easy? im sure its a bit more focused then playing DD role

You came into a random thread to bump a comment I made a month ago?

Anyhow, I'm not even going to explain something to you that anyone with half a brain can see readily.

not looking at the date you said something, the thread was on the top and the title seemed appealing.

I do not get the grounds of your comment i do not get why you felt the need to ethug that.

you said somewhere else there are no "tanks" in FFXI and that "holding back" was stupid when you can tank it yourr self when it was being talked about ripping hate off plds or w/e

how does what you said in this other thread fit what you said here?

This is a bit of a necro-post I know but while this update has screwed NIN/DRK they may have plans for NIN enmity boosting in future updates. Maybe this update balances changes they have in mind for the future. Somehow I doubt it but there is a glimmer of hope.

No doubt it's good for BLMs :P

Honestly, if I need anything tanked at this point, I'm more likely to do it on Monk than spend my time looking for a Paladin. Ninja doesn't have the hate grab necessary against pretty much any DD at this point, short of completely starving your melee of all buffs while throwing a Bard, Corsair, and Dancer behind the tank. Paladin is practically invulnerable unless they're retarded, but I have trouble finding many things that warrant it and, since I lowman whenever possible, that means things like Carabosse or Dawon may not yet be possible. So if they decide to give up on nearly a decade of Ninja tanking and just buff it to be a powerful DD again, that'd be just fine. But, at this point, Ninja is in limbo. It's only real claim to fame is that it's practically indestructible solo, but even then, it's sharing that title with Dancer.
