So, our lance has 111 DMG. It's already higher than an upgraded Gungnir?

I would sure hope so. Just kinda surprised me to see such a high base dmg already on top of being able to upgrade them through magians.

Just need to see how Magian is going to work with those weapons.
Although, this sounds so similar to how Nyzul weapons were perceived.

I don't know which I should upgrade to. Rhongomiant is the obvious choice but with Cerastes's lower dmg I feel like they're gonna come out with a much better one that goes down that route instead... I don't want to camp all this shit again.

I'm almost positive Rhongomiant is going to pull ahead by a lot with future updates. It's silly to think otherwise.

Relic is further marginalized... /sadface
I assume/hope? the +3 and +4 still add to the 112 dmg... <.>

So how does this new empyrean weapon (Rhongomiant DMG: 111 Delay: 492) compare to other final magian weapons (OAT weapon and OA 2 to 3 times)? I started working on my bradamante and I have 4 blobs atm, but i may end up starting empyrean weapon path if it ends up pulling ahead (if it hasnt already....)

Last I checked I couldn't even find those weapons in the magian trials.

They are definitely there. You can find Rhongomiant on wiki too via "trial 1401"
Edit: So.... any idea on how go get the Chloris buds?

uh... relic is still far and ahead of everything
I will admit that the 2.5dmg proc is hawt, and worth the upgrade but the proc rate is fairly low.
Geirskogul def needs adjustments.
Lets not forget about teh shock spikes! 8D
The upgraded Gungnir is "only" 1 dmg more than Rhongomiant.
The +25 ACC bonus seems to be marginal as we get the ACC bonus from 2hnd weap, job traits, and common-sense gear. DRGs can easily get to the 95% ACC cap iirc...
So I view it as marginal when my relic "advantage" is reduced to 1 base damage when I use Drakesbane. I guess my expectations are a tad high, lol.

so you can't take that 25 acc and take it out of other slots? i like to keep hope that there are good relic wielders out there, but people like you just make me lose hope.

Relics can take up to 3 years to complete. To get one requires a lot of effort and time put into it. To have a Weapon that can rival and have a higher base damage... That doesn't take nearly the time and effort put into a relic. Well, I can see his dissappointment.

To be fair guys. If you're keeping up with how Abyssea is working these weapons arent just going to fall into everyones hands.
The only drop item Ive seen posted about so far was the one for Marasume (SAM empyrean).
To get it they had to kill pop NMs in the zones, and one player had a CHANCE of recieving a key item. Once they got several of these key items they were able to pop the NM that dropped the Empyrean materials. It took 18 people and still gave them hell... and at the end of the day dropped 2 of the stones.
So it takes a few runs to gather the key items to pop the NM and kill it~ and thats only 4% of the weapon done, meanwhile your entire LS is working just for your weapon by doing this.
Though all that said... I do NOT envy the new relic weapon magian trials, talk about a grind fest.

The way I see the new Empyrean weapons: "The average man's relic."
While I haven't started on my Oathkeeper (plan on doing it after i get my h2h up to one of the new trials, and finish lvling PUP to 80), these weapons give me great relief that the common player has a greater opportunity to obtain one or more of these through sheer hard work and not a craps worth of farming/buying currency/relic items from groups. People might think this isn't "hardcore" or even unfair, but honestly in a dynamis shell that is completely focused on helping members obtain relics, how many actually have the opportunity to get to the point of being allowed to be the one getting his/her shot at a relic? This is SE's way of giving people who are willing to put forth effort into something and get what they desire out of it without getting shat on by LS drama or something...
My 2 cents aside...lol
I assume there will be some additional stats as we roll round the 99 cap, I doubt they'll trump relics as a whole, although through pure base dmg Rhongomiant already is way ahead of Ryunohige even after full magian upgrades. Not saying that ppl who got Ryunohige already wasted their time, cause by the end of a T3 aftermath it prob out dmg's Rhongomiant because of attack, acc and OAT effect from it as well as the Jump enhancements (that new Jump II enhancement has me wondering how much they buffed it...)

Not sure how long you been playing DRG or this game, but sounds like you are making a "its situational" arguement. Thats not what I am trying to get into here... I am pointing out the value of the relic weapon itself... upgrade a Relic and use it for some situations? what a great idea! lol.
My comment on the ACC bonus is that we can cap it relatively easily. So with Gungnir you can stack more STR/ATT/Haste gear right? Such good pieces, in our limited slots, also have ACC on them... redundant. Get my point? But yes, I understand that it offers more flexibility with gear selection.
If you lose hope based on my few posts, then I should assume you have a short FFXI play history, let alone Relic upgrade experience? But to be fair, I am not up to date on all the latest gear/stats coming out... though I continue to get the impression that it will not hold its luster with the way SE keeps adding/upgrading the weapons. When Relics were introduced, the next best weapon was Gae Bolg (92dmg), Ice Lance+1 (90dmg), or Colossal (88dmg) so base dmg range was 8-12dmg range... now its 1 dmg. If you understand the dmg formulas (I am no expert) base dmg is considered significant.
I am happy with the Relic really and the only dissapointment is Gierskogul (AGI mod... WRRRRRRRYYYYYYY). Sorry if it sounded like I dont like the Relic, my comment was pointing out how less significant it is... hence me thinking about its worth/value... cognitive dissonance stuff.
Very happy that there are new/strong weaps for DRGs overall yo =)

Also, I do acknowledge that these modern/new relics are still a bitch to upgrade so SE may intend them to be ok par with the og relics. No harm in having more relics available with alot of hard work/dedication.
Always a plus to see proud and dedicated Dragoons =)
