NEW Warrior abilitie and traits

JA Restraint: Boosts WS damage for each hit you land, but prevents critical hits, probably better for WS like kings justice, since on raging rush and rampage it will keep you from causing critical hits.

JT Fencer: Gives higher % of critical hits, and TP bonus rumored to be between 25-50% with testing needed. I can see this mixed with mas Savagery merits and martial bhuj giving you a total of 200TP bonus, always doing 300% tp for WS sounds very sexy.

JT Critical Attack Bonus: Evey sexier, critical hits deal more damage.

JT Shield Defence Bonus: take less dmg when you block with a shield. Why the hell did they give us this? Ok we have the second highest shield skill in the game, but DRK has access to more shields than war does! And they dont have any shield skill! What the hell?! You want us to use shields but give us shitty shields and we cant even use all the shields pld can use. Screw this JT, its only useful when you puts around with a shield for the lulz.


So what are your thoughts on these new additions to war?

Um... you do realize the only shields 70+ that PLD gets, and WAR doesn't are:


Januwiyah (+1)
DEF:21(22) HP+25(30) Resist paralyze

Palmerin's Shield
DEF:20 Damage taken -2%

Ritter Shield (+1)
DEF:21(22) HP+10(11) MP+10(11) Resist Vs. Dark+8(9) Resist Vs. Light+8(9) PLD: DEF+2

Highlander's Targe
DEF: 23 "Shield Bash" +15

Caballero Shield
DEF: 21 "Magic Def. Bonus" +2 Enmity +2 Physical damage: "Blaze Spikes" effect Set: Increases VIT


Included increased stats of HQ in brackets for comparison sakes, WAR gets all the good 70+ shields PLD does, that are actually usefull... including one that, for a WAR, is potentially better due to the lower natural shield skill compared to a PLD.


Acheron Shield
DEF: 27(28) Resist Vs. Ice -10(11)
Shield skill +10(11)


I'm sorry but I just don't see where your statement about warrior not getting all the good ones PLD does is coming from.

On topic, perhaps Fencer, in combination with Shield Defense Bonus is the start of SE's way of trying to make WAR a viable tank come 99? I get the feeling they want WAR to be able to more easily to switch styles between being a tank, and a DD, perhaps I'm the only one hoping that WAR can be used as a tank close to the efficiency of PLD and NIN though.

Most of the WAR update is kinda meh, Fencer trait is kinda interesting. Didn't really see much of a wow effect from Restraint.

Terror shield as far as good ones PLD can use that WAR can't. However, Archeron's shield would probably beat most PLD shields anyways.

I know there are good 75 shields for war. But leveling up, there are way too many pld/drk only shields. And I dont see what shield mastery has to do with anything as its a pld trait not a war one. Anyways, I think restraint is a bust for critical hit WS, probably good for multi hit non critical WS, otherwise just keep raging rush with increased chance for crit and higher dmg crit when you get crit atk + trait.

WAR gets Shield Mastery at 80. Could be a powerful tool if used properly.

My initial use of restraint so far is limited, but I've not seen stellar results. Maybe its better to use for things like polearm and penta thrust?

Well some people are saying 2handers dont get fencer bonus, super lame. So you cant get it from 2hander, from dual wielding, need to be single hand weapon, and might as well use shield if you going to want it for fencer. So I guess its up to whether you want to use a traditional axe with lots of stats or maybe unlocked retributor for the super extra crit %. Full crit merits, retributor, fencer, and minimum crit floor would be 20% crit rate. Depending on abysea you could get perle hauberk for another 2%, and post 80 with crit atk bonus you might see some good dps spamming rampage.

Its a mandate from SE, they want us to go axe/shield! Besides, I'm just postulating a situation to take advantage of max crit% rate.

My favorite build is using a great axe, but apparently SE hates us so fencer doesnt work with 2 handed weapons. Extra 5% crit and 40 tp bonus is worth looking into if even for shits and giggles for some testing.

Having just looked at the lvl 80 magian weapons, I'd say they're better than maneater, or at least some of them are. Having owned a maneater for a few years and then proudly selling it, I'm not sorry that I did.
