First off this is all purely for the sake of fun. Im not at all serious in doing so. But I was out of boredom working on both the multi hit great sword path and the straight forward damage great sword path. (Along with the multi hit sword paths) And im wondering what would end up doing better in the long run. A paldadin with both joytoy and the current new form of anatea (i forget its name). Or a paladin playing around on /SAM in a purely DD situation (haha) with the multi hit GS. (or if a you have alot of haste gear) the new straight forward damage one. (Believe its name is Caladaborg)

PLD DD

Well, either way you spin it PLD is glued to sushi/pizza, so your attack is always going to be hurting. I can't imagine swordchucks would ever surpass a good GS build. After all, Spinning Slash doesn't care how shitty your attack is.

I'm confused as to how that is true. I'm certainly not interested in Paladin as a DD, but with A+ 1H skill, B 2H skill, and access to most of the gear that Warrior or Dragoon has, surely they can't be trailing that much in terms of Attack and Accuracy.

In addition to the fact that both WAR and DRG are A+ in their two-handed option, they both have attack boosts to work with.
Unfortunately, either way a PLD decides to go, they're going to be glued to some sort of accuracy food, which is going to be pretty detrimental to their already trailing attack. Fortunately, Spinning Slash is largely unaffected by this deficit. Vorpal Blade isn't so forgiving, though.
By the way, at their base, PLD has 320 Acc with GSD, 317 Acc with SWD.

I played with PLD/SAM on trolls tonight, it wasn't abyssmal. Made me halfway worth the slot in the party.

Yeah, so? Monk is tied to the same basic dilemma (that a Paladin would be forced to eat sushi seems a bit of a stretch -- places where you'd have a Paladin DD are not the places where you'd rather have them tanking in one capacity or another) but no one calls them Attack-starved, even though they're forced to suffer a completely useless DD sub most of the time. Obviously there are some differences, in that Paladin doesn't get Dragoon's Accuracy Boost traits nor Warrior's and Samurai's access to Byakko's Haidate, but I'm having trouble figuring out where Paladin is so lacking.
Not that I'm particularly invested in the idea, either. Considering they're basically the only job officially allowed to tank anymore, per SE design, they can do less melee damage than a Scholar for all it really matters to me. I just cannot fathom how a job with access to heavy armor and decent weapons could be so ill-suited to hitting things.

I was under the impression that we're talking about merits. And I'm by no means trying to imply that they're ill-suited for the more typical definition of damage. Give me a PLD with capped GSD and I doubt I'll have any difficult outperforming your run-of-the-mill DD. I'm just saying that their lack of Berserk or any other means to boosting their attack(be it job traits, food, or some combination of the two) makes them, I suspect, better suited for Spinning Slash than Vorpal Blade. The only exception that I can think of is if they happened to have a Kraken(/Octave) Club. Due to their A in club, I have no difficulty believing that they'd be quite formidable doing things in a "TP-spam" manner.

Ok, I was not interpreting your assessment that way. I thought you were saying that Paladin was lousy. The point about Spinning Attack and whatnot makes perfect sense. Apologies for the confusion.

after the next two lvl cap increases, 90pld/45war with the 6%+ crit sword, crit merits, fencer, and %5 base crit = 20% minimum crit rate. Might not be all that good in dmg, but if you like seeing critical hits it will be good.
For now, /sam is probably better.
