I realize this is KI and gonna get flamed, but maybe there will be 1 reply that helps. And yes, i read the 10 guides Wiki has. Just seems like alot of luck on this f fight?

I recently dinged to 79 and decided to WB Maat mnk since i couldn't beat it before (mnk was not my first 75). so, im thinking, should be easy right? I STILL LOST and would like suggestions.

My Guard is only 124. Sucks yes, but do alot of 66-70 mnk (specially those just doing for maat cap) have capped guard?
EVA 245
H2H 273

Weapon: Hades
Head: Temple Crown macro for focus at start, then Arhats+1
Body: SH+1 (ya i know, but figured it was decent mix of acc/eva/hp)
back: amemet+1
neck: Chiv Chain (i have a PCC too but figured i was ok on acc. dont have a faith)
hand: Temple Gloves during boost/chi, then macro to Melee Gloves
Waist: Brown Belt (dont need haste, but kept on for str+5, dunno what else i could use)
Earring: Brutal Coral (hehe just picked up random)
Rings: Sniper Woodsman
Legs: byakkos
feet: AF boots (usually use fuma but didnt need haste here)
Ammo: Tiphia

Obviously not main monk, not gonna spend a ton of time getting gear to beat a Maat some peeps can do at 66.

so i go in, ZZZ tp to 100. eat a yellow curry. use a Blink Band. boost boost boost etc. engage, pop focus, dodge, perfect counter. pop Hundred Fists and chi Blast him for 500. he comes up to me, i Asuran fists for 565. use TP wing and Asuran fists for 351. I get in 2 more hits only (even with 100F) and im dead.

Dont really want to use counterstance cuz then he rapes me (Path>> WTF WHY ARENT U USING COUNTERSTANCE)? It took 17 seconds from my actual Chi Blast to my death.

Easy strat that wiki doesn't have up and worked better for me than their strats was this: Keep your AF body on (for chakra if you need it), don't swap any gear out, eva gear in the other slots is fine but you wont be evading too much, really. Get an icarus wing, go in, opo neck/sleep pot to 100 TP.

Start off by building up boosts and chi blast him from the start, pop buffs and hundred fists, wait til he pops his hundred fists (saving your WS's for the last possible second til he does) then WS, > wing > WS, and let your HF finish him off if your WS's haven't already.

It's a very easy fight if you time it right with his HF activation. Once he uses it, consider the fight over. So just knock him down to about 50-60% with chi blast and your HF, when he uses his 2hr, WS spam him dead.

Edited: Forgot to mention buffs like dodge, was doing two things at once. But I also wouldn't bother with counterstance, as much as it's recommended for the fight. I did better without it.

Go full DD in terms of gear.
Use an Icarus Wing, open with Asuran Fists. Use Focus/Dodge/Hundred Fists/Counterstance. During Hundred Fists, weaponskill without boosting and Chakra when needed. You should very easily win the fight.

If you want to be overly efficient, Boost up and open with a full powered Chi Blast.

Seriously, use Counterstance. MNK was my first Genkai job, so my gear was even more subpar and I was still able to win.

At 79, you shouldn't come close to needing sushi to cap out accuracy, use Meats.

I'm honestly surprised he's giving you trouble at 79. You shouldn't need it, but cap off your Hand-to-Hand skill just as a matter of principle.

Also, honestly, put on Counterstance. I fought him here on my second account at 75 I think, since I didn't want to screw around (beat him at 70 on my Bard, for the record, but I'm one of those folks who took him down at 66 way back in the day, too), and opted to check damage with and without Counterstance. As is often the case, Counterstance tends to save you a lot more than hurt you. The only way Maat should even be able to hurt you is with Asuran Fists, as his Dragon Kicks and Backhand Blows aren't powered up by all the WS gear we use. Worst case scenario, if he actually manages to cream you again, is to bring in a Vile Elixir +1. Frankly, though, it should be a needless expense. I think you've just had some phenomenally bad luck 'cause there's really not a whole lot of strategy here and you've covered all of it.

I'm surprised you're having issues, but honestly just cap out your skills and you'll be more than fine. Your gear is a bit odd, but better than what many of us used back at US launch fighting him at 66~70.

As above mentioned, if you want more help for guaranteed win you can do the old tricks:
-Opo to 100%
-Boost x11/12 and open with Chi
-Full /ja use
-Hundred Fists
-Icarus Wing
-Vile Elixir +1

If you happen to have Melee Gaiters macro that shit in and Counterstance +eat pizza. Pretty sure you're capped/near capped ACC, but this would guarantee it~

Good Luck, and if this doesn't work...take it as a sign MNK isn't for you?

Alright, thanks everyone for their suggestions. I finally won, and it was still close lol

1. Used counterstance (sucked it up and bought a pair of Cross-Counters for good measure), returned hades to lender
2. did not use TP wing, figured get just about as much tp from Hundred Fists but still get to give some damage

It still seems like alot of luck. within 1s of chi blasting maat i was in red HP. Taru - started 1341 HP. after boost/buffing i hundred fist and chi blast him. He runs up and hits me (thru lolBlinkBand) for 216 and a crit for 300 something (i think 340?). My first hit was countered for 244. Boom just engaged and im down 800 hp (540ish left). WTF maat

but I countered 3 times (and a Perfect Counter once), used chakra with AF body and AF2 gloves. TP wing is a bad idea i think... took just a few seconds longer and got his HP down alot.

Thanks again

The run to Maat should be longer than the fight. Ic. Wing if you're going for speed, all abilites and just watch him drop.

Congrats on winning.

I did the same tactic at 75 last week and he only took me down to 80-90% when it was over. I started boosting for 2 and a half min, enganged, used band, gear swap, focus, dodge, counter, hundred, chiblast and I won very quickly. I held off on activating Asuran until I saw his his hundred fist aura and I won immediately.

The week before, he rocked me because I slept TP and icarus wing'd 2 asurans and of course he hundred fisted me to oblivion.

Without weapon skilling or hundredfisting mid-fight, his 2hr activated relatively late. He didn't throw a single ws (<3 subtle blow). He just took it until his health was <50%. My log only showed my 3 shadows coming off and a counterattack, no injuries. I can probably say, my hp-loss after the fight, was from getting my subjob back.
