Assuming you haven't already, you will need to download the Windows Vista POL Viewer installer from the POL website. You cannot use the POL Viewer included with the original discs. More than likely, this will resolve your problems.

For Windows Vista/7, download it here: http://dl.square-eni...polus/setup.exe
That's the US version. I'm sure the following will work too:
Europe - http://dl.square-eni...poleu/setup.exe
Japan - http://dl.square-eni...poljp/setup.exe
For Rise of Nations, try to set it to Vista or Windows XP under Compatibility mode. Just right click the EXE, then go to Properties, then go to Compatibility tab.
The last thing you can try is using VMWare Player, which is free. You will need the following though:
- Windows XP installation CD
- CPU with 2 cores of no less than 2.0 GHz; 2.4 GHz or higher recommended. Quad core would be preferred.
- 4 GB of RAM; 6 GB or more recommended and a 64-bit OS
- another hard drive with ample space
The point is to run Windows XP under a virtual environment. And, no, Windows XP mode is gimped beyond belief that you can't run 3D games on it. VMWare Player does. You have to be sure to enable 3D hardware acceleration in the settings of the VM (virtual machine). I can give you more instructions if needed.
