Never once did anyone tell me that Monk was anything other than a damage dealing class. More over, Warrior was already on its way out as a tanking class by then -- which makes it even less likely that things are anything like what you claim.

Pretty much this. I started in November 2003 and I never saw once ever "We need a tank, ohh theres a MNK!". Then we should probably note that these are probably the same people who thought WHM's could tank because they could heal themselves.

Pretty much what everyone said. MNK was mostly considered a DD although it had some tanking potential at early levels.
