When people buy the PS3 version, they know they can only work with what they got, and most people are fine with that. Also not everyone uses vent, so your complaining is for your own personal reasons. Small gripes like this are no reason to say that MMO's cannot work on consoles. It is like Mass Effect on the 360 and PC, the PC version looks a lot better, but some people prefer a console because it is on a large TV and the convenience of knowing that you don't have to upgrade your PC to play just one game.

To those of you who insist that MMO's should be PC ONRY: Why?

People thinking PS3 will somehow hold the game back. Only reason PS2 had the issue with XI was because of how late in the PS2 life XI was released. Although watching people bitching about it and saying SE should drop PS2 support is always funny to watch.

The PS2 was online capable but not online designed like PS3 is. Through firmware updates a lot of OS limitations are easily eliminated, unlike PS2.

The most likely reason the PS3 release was delay has to do with Play Station Plus. Jack Trenton:

Now with this in mind, it's not hard to move to the conclusion that in order to drive Play Station Plus, Sony pressured SE to delay FFXIV so that only PS+ members could get into the PS3 beta, which delayed the version so that they could get it ready and get a high enough number of PS+ Users that there would be obvious advantages to using it.

SE, of course, desperate to live up to their announcement the game would be out in 2010, rebelled by releasing it on PC first.

That is quite an interesting yet very believable theory. Don't think it was the reason the PS3 version got delayed, but I wouldn't doubt it was the reason it was delayed even further.

That's probably the most logical reason for the delay anyone came up with so far lol. I'm hoping the PS3 beta comes around shortly after the PC release. I've already been thinking about PSN+, but been holding off on that waiting for the right incentive; and if what you say turns out to be true, I would subscribe right then and there lol.

I personally don't think PS+ has anything to do with the PS3 version since PS+ is already out and the expected release of the PS3 version is in 8 months. I've not known a beta to last that long or close to it for any top game.

That sound you hear is the point swooshing over your head. SE announced - well before PSN+ was announced - that that there would be a PS3 beta test. PSN+, a fifty dollar annual charge, will be the only way that PS3 users will be able to play betas for any game. SE, obviously pissed about the fact that their potential subscribers might have to fork over $50 to play something that ought be free, is probably trying to persuade Sony to let the FFXIV beta to not fall under PSN+. Hence, the real reason for the delay is probably negotiations.

By the way, why the fuck do you conclude that it would be an eight month-long beta? People haven't even been selected for the PS3 beta yet.

So you prefer PCs because of their major flaw: they're huge money sinks. Hmmm... That's nice.

I agree with most of what you say, but people prefer PC's for a multitude of reasons that they may not want to post up here. I bought my laptop especially to play ffxiv, but it also has other things on that i use for day to day business. Editing software, office software, my laptop is portable and when i hook up my Aircard i can use it anywhere - luckily work provides that lol.

will i end up getting a ps3? of course, why wouldnt i? its an awesome piece of hardware. but my laptop is more versitile, and like many others have said i enjoy talking to teammates through vent/ts/ and family through skype.

you cant beat some of the aspects that a pc/laptop will give you. but then again, unless you have the set up you arent playing it on a 52 inch tv.... i will be however. so it will be just the same. just i can unplug mine and go do some work down at the park.

are they a money sink? of course!! but many people including myself are not hurting for money right now. some people have sugar mommas, or have moms/dads that buy them everything under the sun. i've had to work for my shtuff. i just prefer a laptop to a ps3, again, i'll still get one, but games are 50$ a pop right? cheapest console at bestbuy is 300$.... how many of you wont have at least 10 games for that ps3, or more.....? i cant upgrade my laptop much, but i bought a good one for a reason, by the time the next playstation comes out i guarantee you will have spent more money than me on all of your crap for a ps3.

Pc users are different, they can upgrade more easily, and for the most part dont spend high dollar on a lot of their components, so they do have to upgrade more often.

Final Point: Both are money sinks... just one is upfront, and the other you have to think about. So lets not bash one or the other. Preference is just that, preference.

Show me the article where it says that there is a correlation between the two. If you can't, then it's just as I thought... speculation and rumors. Sony did not say that the only way you can do betas is if you're a PSN+ member but you will have better odds.

So that it's clearer for you...

Subscribers also get early or exclusive access to some betas

Please actually read the articles and/or know what you're talking about instead of just jumping to conclusions (unless you just like hearing yourself talk).

It's 8 months from the expected release date. Something is obviously cooking in the works soon. Even if the beta starts in 2 months, that's a 6 month beta. It's not that hard to figure out...

I thought the arguement was saying that the PS3 cannot play MMO's better than a PC, not a what do I prefer more discussion.

Also, logically, it will probably be three months before release on PS3 for it's beta, December, or late November at the earliest. Give the PC users 3 months to beta, and PS3 beta gets 3 months, seems right and fair.

Also think of how beta was implemented when FFXI came out for 360, I would not doubt their will be a similar approach to the PS3 version of FFXIV.

I don't really doubt anything, but when people jump to stupid-ass conclusions based on rumors and misunderstandings, it just makes me want to /facepalm.

I do agree with your statement, Velhart. It does seem logical and fair. The only thing that makes me kinda nervous is the fact that fairness has gray areas. There is a huge one from FFXI that I could go into... but I really don't feel like riding that train right now.

Would I care about PS3 limitations? No. If that bothered me, I'd have ponied up for a better computer and gotten the PC version. I expect the PC version will be better with the right hardware, but I just don't have that kind of money.

If they did pull the plug on the PS3 version, fine. Life goes on, but I wouldn't buy a gaming PC. Maybe others will, but SE would have to do without me.
