Dragon Age II Game Informer has a multi-page article out about it...

...and Bioware has answered the criticism of the original Dragon Age's "poor graphics" by...making them even fucking uglier? Oh, no, wait, I'm sorry, they're taking a new artistic direction.
And that direction is down a shit-creek without a paddle.

I have to say, the gaming community has no fucking idea what it wants. It's either, "game play is priority" or "it has to look purty." And of course, most of the people who say it has to look good are probably the same assholes who have NES roms on their PC.

Dragon Age had poor graphics?
I mean sure, they weren't fucking beautiful, but I never really had complaints.

i've seen worse graphics on games that were more recent then dragon age lol
i keep calling the main char a pussy, cuz he ran away from lothering instead of staying and dying...
my buddy's sister practically comes whenever new dragon age info is released -.-;; and always extolls the virtue of having zevran in your party when you play, but i dont wanna have 2 friggin rogues in my group, that's why i picked my dog over lelianna...

I made my guy an wood elf rouge. I pair up with lelianna and backstab the crap out of anything that gets in our way. Stuff usually goes down rapidly. Usually within a few seconds depending on the monster. But either way they go down fairly quick lol.
lelianna and wynne are my prefered party members. I cant stand zevran though. Something about him just irks me.

It didn't, really, especially if you played it on a PC. (On Xbox 360, the short draw distance was a bit noticeable, but other than that? No problem, and understandable given the amount of voice acting and content they fit onto a single DVD.) It was no Crysis, but I liked its general art direction and especially the character models. My only gripe with the general design is that the armor looked eerily similar to Elder Scrolls IV stuff, and that mages looked stupid as Hell if you ever equipped them with headgear.
But small things like that required turning Darkspawn into unmenacing Skeletor clones? And the landscape of an area into a featureless blob with spikes sticking out of it? Eh. It looks like a very early build, and is probably something they really shouldn't have revealed to the public...the screenshots in the magazine look even worse than the two screenshots floating around the web.

I can think of quite a few games that didn't have to sacrifice one of those for the other...

And I can cite games were graphics were second to game play, but it was still an awesome game. Hell, you started a fucking thread about one of them...
As long as graphics are not so terrible as to actually distract from, interrupt, or completely destroy game play, it shouldn't be a concern. Sure, Dragon Age could have been prettier. But did it need to be? No.

Honestly, until I started reading complaints about the graphics and actually compared it to other games (like Mass Effect 2) I didn't even notice. So I agree with Vig, as long as they're not so horrible as to distract from the game itself I don't think they matter too much.

The new Sin and Punishment is another example. Game has horrible graphics for even a Wii game, looks like a low res Dreamcast game and the main character looks like he came out of a crappy 1960's space movie. Yet I found myself completely into the game, an on rail shooter I actually really like.
Really if you think about it, BioWare has never been notorious for graphics except for Mass Effect. Even though games like KOTOR and Jade Empire feel flawless in my perspective, it is not to say that they excelled in the graphics department on the original Xbox. Mass Effect just seems to be one of those times where they decided to not only make the game awesome, but also make it graphically beautiful.
Look at the new Old Republic game coming out, definitely not the prettiest looking MMO, but most people are in it for a Star Wars MMO that shows a lot of promise and the game play looks great.
So yea, apparently your expectations were risen when Mass Effect came out. BioWare has never been notorious for being graphically beautiful, they are notorious for making very fun and innovative game play in RPG's.
And looking at the Dragon Age 2 screens has influenced me to play the first one again after Dragon Quest IX.

I think that's more a function of Japanese character design.

Every time I see him, I am for some reason thinking of Logan's Run, then again, that movie was in the 70's.

I don't know if you guys have played Nier or not but a lot of people didn't like it.
The graphics were pretty bad especially when there were a lot of monsters on screen but honestly I loved the game.
The music was nice, the characters were interesting and the story as short as it was was entertaining.

I wish I could understand why you continue to talk about the original Dragon Age and its graphics (which were just fine) when my issue is clearly the art direction/general ugliness of the second game.
Are we on the same page yet? Or would you like to continue to argue a point I never made?
Here's a hint: I put "poor graphics" in quotations in my original post because I never thought Dragon Age's graphics were even close to bad.

Considering you've never posted any pics, links to pics, a trailer, or a link to a trailer, I could only assume you were talking about the original Dragon Age. Because I know you of all people wouldn't make a post without clear evidence to prove your point.

The two screenshots I referenced are not static-linked images, or I'd have posted them already, and I can't hunt down any of the images used in the magazine.
Considering the name of my thread is
DRAGON AGE II (AS IN "TWO"/"2"/"NOT FUCKING 'ONE'/'ORIGINS' YOU REPUGNANT SEMEN-BILGE"/ETC.),
I assumed most people were literate enough to understand the distinction between the two games.
And speaking of bitching about videogame players complaining about graphics...see: your own thread whining about how they reused sprites for the new Castlevania game.

I was peeved, not raging and frothing at the mouth, afterbirth. And it wasn't a thread about the graphics, anyway.
Yes, let's rage some more about a game still in development from pictures that were put into a magazine two months ago. Either way, my argument about graphics versus game play still stands. Dragon Age 1 was the more appropriate example because, oh boy, we're talking about Dragon Age 2.
Plus, you're so cute when you smash your head into your desk.

The game looks fine, stop bitching over a few screen shots. Seriously, did no one take a minute to read my post? Stop setting your damn standards so damn high, this is why games like someone said "Nier" was so damn underrated because the way it looked. Sure it wasn't game of the year, but it had a great story, a simplistic and fun battle system, and the bosses were fun. Seriously read my post, and if you can't get the fact into your head, take any blunt item and hit yourself with it till you can get it into your head.
Speaking of which, I am happy they are making a specific version for the PC and a more console oriented version.

Nier wasn't judged lacking because of its graphics, it really was boring trash with a repetitive, dull battle system.
The point you made about graphics versus game play does still stand. I'm glad you took the time to rebut a point I never made. Here's a little lesson in reading comprehension:
"You don't have to sacrifice graphics for gameplay." ≠ "Games without good graphics suck."
"Those graphics look like shit." ≠ "That game is shit."
Yes, let's. It's far more fun than fueling an impotent rage against someone because you can't fucking read.

That being said, I think you were taking my stance as a personal attack against you. I never said YOU held the opinion. It was just observations from the comments of "modern gamers."
Now bend over and let's commence the make up sex.
