I'm writing this from a friends computer but anyway.. on my home labtop me and my roomates internet went out suddenly 2 weeks ago. The computer can't even pickup the wireless signals from original modem it was set to on the computer (which was my roomates moms who lives next door). We suspected it was Norton, but still nothing. I've tried resetting the modem several times; I even DIRECTLY took the labtop over next door to hook up the ethernet cord to the labtop from his mom's computer and it STILL picked up no internet.. I plug the ethernet back into his mom's computer and the internet works fine.. so any suggestions?

Im assuming your a moron by saying these things, but you never know, so im sorry if you feel insulted.
1) Most laptops have a switch either on the side of the laptop or as an Fn+button feature on keyboard. If either of these have been pressed, that is your problem. Switch it back on and go on your merry way.
2) Go to network connections in control pannel. Right click your connection and properties. In the center of the window, find and highlight internet protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties button. If its not on "obtain...........automatically" change it.
3) Did you connect directly to the modem or to the router? If it was the modem, after plugging it in to your laptop did you try cycling the modem (unplug, wait 10 secs, power on)? Also, did you make sure your lan (local area network) connection was active(Many turn it off on laptops since they use wireless)?
