Find it very fascinating how character movement was done. That was a major plus to me when moving a character around, the flow felt very smooth and life like. I didn't realize that they used this kind of technology for it, way to go SE.

Right. And now for the actual discussion I was aiming for.

The fact that they used MoCap and worked so hard on the facial expressions is evident. I always love a game than can do really good facial expressions as human communication can be largely told through just the expressions of the face. And they did an amazing job.

Also, the fact there's dances (especially unique ones to each race) is pretty nifty.

As always, I'm still curious to find out more about their decision to split the races into clans. It was definitely a hot idea IMO.

The facial expressions and movement will definitely help give our character more life when it comes to cutscenes, unlike FFXI where your character is just standing there the entire time. They slightly helped the character interact more in ToAU and WoTG, but it felt really bland. Even in the beginning cutscene in FFXIV, when your character is kneeling in the boat, I could defintely tell the kind expressions of my character was giving.

Holy hot shit on a pancake... I want this even more now.

The fact that SE is using MoCap just goes to show how serious they are about topping FFXI. Granted, this might seem frivolous compared to the major complaints plaguing XI, however it is proof that SE has it's head on straight. Not only that, this will probably be a first in MMOs. You know WoW never used MoCap.

Yeah, duder!
Age of Conan already proved that mocap is the defining aspect of an amazing MMORPG.

Considering I'm one of the great many people who never played Shit of Conan - nor had any interest in it - how was I to know that it used mocap? A simple, "Excuse me, sir..." Would have sufficed, you cock-mongering cunt drizzle.

I´m disappointed they use this technology, but not make characters able to jump or walk down a small cliff.

HA!

I understand whats meant though about jumping up a small cliff or something similar. But i dont really want a WoW clone where when people are bored they just jump in place for about 10 minutes. Just one less thing I have to worry about. Is it annoying? Sure, will I not play ffxiv because of it? no way.

The Making of FFXIV:

Step 1: Compile a list of all the various flaws, errors, and missteps that have harassed our customers in FFXI for the past 8+ years.
Step 2: Implement list in its entirety, even the parts we've fixed in the intervening.
Step 3: Oooooh, shiny motion capture!
Step 4: Giggle at the idiots entranced by Step 3, 'cause everyone knows that MMOs are all about the graphic quality (why hello, Vanguard).
Step 5: Buy another yacht and kill some whores on it. Don't worry, we can afford it.

If I determined if an MMO is good or not by the quality of the graphics, I would still be playing Aion right now.

Updated. Lots of unseen new models. I like the process they use to actually design them. Make a sculpture and then scan it in.
