Here lately, I've been playing with my RDM80 quite a lot, (soloing various BCNMs, NMs ect) and been playing around with my nukes a lot in Abyssea and elsewhere. Now that we have access to T4 nukes (stone&water, the latter easily breaking 1k), are RDMs being taken more seriously in their ability to nuke? Having access to the first two T4s at 80 also seems to open the possibility of eventual T5 nukes in the 90s, in my opinion. Probably not, but even still, T4s through Thunder IV with our enhanced levels (already hitting over 300 elemental skill easy as /SCH), we can/will be able to dish out some serious numbers.
What are your opinions?
Also, any tips on making my less-than-stellar Elvaan MP pool last me a bit longer? My nuking set as RDM/SCH only sees me sitting at 663 MP with cream puffs. Seem to run out really quickly.

The RDM nukes of today and the future. Red Mages taken more seriously as nukers now?

Before being able to suggest improvements, one would need to really know what you are casting in.
As for Elvaan's MP, with full MP merits (because meriting HP is kinda silly for Elvaan) and the Wood Gloves/Ledelsens, you should easily crest 700-750 and actually have a usable piece of gear. This would be as opposed to dropping an INT ring in favor of Astral/Serket's/etc. Of course this all changes if you're rocking out in Morrigan's or something.

I tend to go with
Main: HQ Staff
Sub: Bugard Strap +1 (have all the ele grips on a mule but always hear how useless those are with Bugard)
Ammo: Phantom Tathlum (should I use my hedgehog?)
Head: Warlock's Chapeau
Neck: Elemental Torque/Uggalepih Pendant
L.ear: Loquacious Earring
R.ear: Moldavite Earring
Body: Teal Saio
Hands: Goliard Cuffs
L.ring: Omega Ring
R.ring: Snow Ring
Back: Prism Cape
Waist: Witch's Sash/Obi where applicable
Legs: Teal pants
Feet: Goliard feets.
fer my RDM nukes.

Your elemental magic will never be taken seriously. You can tack on large amounts of skill to make them more accurate, while giving up a hefty amount of MAB in the process, or you can stack masses of MAB while still doing less damage(less accurately) than the other two serious nuking classes. This game has never catered to hybrids, and that didn't(and won't) change with any update.

Just really depends what you're doing. In solo you should consider making a decent nuke set to speed things up, but that doesn't mean they're completely respectable in a damage fashion. Yes you're doing decent damage, but not great damage. However in a PT, it depends on how you're doing on MP. For example, if the mob is debuffed and your melees and mages are buffed, then you can get away with a nuke if your MP is good enough to where you're comfortable (And not running out of MP without being able to cure). However, if you haven't even casted Dia II on a mob (Or Bio 2/3, whichever is more appropriate), you got some other things to handle than nuking.
That's what I like about RDM though, you make choices on what to do, and based on those choices your skill is determined.

I haven't touched my RDM in a while, but i'm assuming it's the same as usual: MB or don't nuke over 5% at all. The reason i say that is because that MP can be used for something else like main healing or if sub healing, allowing faster chains in a party or sleep patrol. I'd personally stick to sleep patrol for those massive incomming mobs. Just stick to MBing (with that awesome magic burst bonus soon comming) and everything will be OK.
I'd also look at SCH for nuking in the future as well.

I don't see rdm getting tier 5 nukes unless blm are given tier 6 nukes. Tier 4 nukes are nice for making easy things easier but I don't see rdm being used in a party specifically to fill the blm role unless no blms are available.

RDM is never going to replace BLM until they give the job Sleepga 2 or something.

The first BLM to cast Sleepga is the first BLM to have their VE wear off (if you have multiple BLM casting shit at the same time).

le sigh
Manifestion Sleep/Sleep II done.
If you are in a nuking role you /SCH end of discussion, it also provides 2 very suitable charges for sleep-ga. As for RDM nukes this picture disagrees with you....

that is not me, but that is a 1.8K Aero IV magic burst, with Fire,Blizz,Thunder still to come...
In all cases, a Magic Burst greatly increases Magic Accuracy, making a Resist less likely.
It also increases magic damage, if any, by 30%
1.8*.70 = 1.26K nuke base, pretty respectable if you ask me.
Oh BTW we can chainspell that shit.

But the CE stays until they get hit..... Sleepga/2 was not effected by the enmity nerf.
