Team Ballista LS on Siren

Hello!

I'm a 60-cap Ballista fanatic. It's the only part of FFXI that I play.

For the last few months, I've been running an NA/EU team Ballista LS on Siren that focuses on playing against Japanese LSs in diorama.

We strive for a respectful team environment where everyone can learn and have fun together. The group really enjoys the team aspect of Ballista, but we've been only marginally successful with our current members.

Recently, we've lost one of our key members, and that has prompted us to take a more serious approach to finding people that enjoy Ballista in the same way we do.

I post this in the hope that there are still some people who share our passion for Ballista as a team game. I've posted some more recent vs. JP diorama matches up on youtube (account under the same name http://www.youtube.com/user/deshi0 ). If this style interests you, please drop me a message on this forum or on youtube! I'd be more than happy to provide more info, and we'd love to have you with us!

Just an FYI: For those who may have heard about Siren's issue with Official Matches, the problem has since been resolved (one month+ without that person around).

Thanks for reading!

EDIT: Myself and the remaining members are considering a possible server transfer, for various reasons I won't go into in detail. Siren's ballista is still somewhat active during NA time. Please send me a message if you're considering a transfer to Siren in order to join up with us.

EDIT2: We're on Lakshmi now, along with some new and old teammates. If you're interested, that's where we'll be!

Wow, this looks really interesting. I haven't seen anything quite like it before. Really good gameplay from those Diorama videos. Hope you guys get more people, and I'll be looking forward to more of those Dio matches.

And I was about to assume it was lolfeiwong, or did lolfeiwong buy an account named Yiri? heh That's unlike him to play Red Mage ;)

i've watched you're videos and you by far have the best videos ive seen yet of team matches.
my question is, how do you get all you're ballista gear? i usually just farm for one piece at a time (for expensive items such a Byrnie +1, Behemoth Mantle +1 etc)
but i see that you and you're team (vyi atleast) like to try and augment for the best possible outcome, do you have a crafter helping you out in anyway? i've never even come across a leo xbow+1 on AH or bazaar before, yet i hear some of you are augmenting them multiple times, it could be just because you're server makes more of the items since its more of a pvp server, but im just making sure, because i'd like to get my hand on an amazing ballista set without spending days farming for big pieces to augment, only to get raped in the face by STR-2 INT+2 VIT-1 augments.

That's a good question and thanks for the compliment.

I've always been "full ballista", so I worked on my equipment over a long period of time. Pretty much everyone that is or has been a member of my team was once an avid HNMer, NM hunter, crafter, etc and was fairly rich before going "full ballista". Sometimes we hunt down crafters to create ballista items (supplying the ingredients of course) but as you mentioned, Siren's ballista community is well-known to crafters, so most ballista-specific items show up on AH. There are also instances where players will abuse the server transfer service to buy up ballista items on different servers.

What I usually say to someone in your position is to get a full set of HQ gear first. Don't bother with augmenting until you can suffer the loss.. which may be a while if you're farming piece by piece. There are some augment sets that are necessary, but the majority of it is just fluff.. most people are maxed out HQ-wise so augmenting is the only way to power up.

Good luck and thanks for posting something constructive here. :)

i see, and i already thought about the server transfer abuse (Cchains are 90k here) if i move to siren for ballista im most likely gonna load up on a bunch of those so i can start pretty well off. and i have most essential things for ballista, gilt cuisses, protecting bangles intruder earring etc, anything that a war drk or pld MUST have in ballista?
and i usually go /nin with bastard+1/TM+2 but sometimes i go /sam with couse+1/Gaxe+1. no good scythe besides vassago's for drk and thats like hp-80% for me, no thanks. usually my output with /nin is better, lasting longer with utu and hitting for a good 50-130 each sword, my vorpals are very random though, but still consistent dmg compared to what i've seen with polearm.
the point of me stating that last paragraph is i see all of you're DDs that you use in diorama go /sam instead of /nin, any reason? i usually see war or drk lasting alot longer as /nin than i do /sam, or is there a specific gear setup for /sam that in the longrun is better than /nin?

In my opinion, a dark resistance set is essential for PLD.. nice for DRK and WAR as well but not as important. I agree with you about Vassago's scythe, try picking up an Ivory HQ if you can, but Smiting HQ or barbarian's work just fine.

About /sam and /nin.. hmm. On Siren, matches are based entirely on teamwork. When you're facing a team that's sharp(diorama or OM, doesn't matter), you need to be able to unload WSs in sync in order to get a kill at all. Whether or not it results in a skillchain doesn't matter, large spike damage is necessary in many situations. If you're /nin and the rest of your party is /sam, you won't be able to keep up with their TP gain, so you won't really be taking part in these timed attacks.

Utsusemi is simply too easy to get rid of, too.. it really doesn't add much to your defense. In some small match situations, it can still work alright, but /sam will likely outdo it there too. Another thing is accuracy, two handed weapons with hasso don't miss often, regardless of the target.

On the topic of survivability.. communication, battle skill and (item)luck trump everything else.

If you're going to abuse the server transfer system, make sure you spread your money around a bit.. don't want you to buy 50 chains and have the price dip below 90k on the night you transfer, lol. Good luck!

i see, and yeah lol im probably gonna get a few chains, and a few abtal pieces. byrnie +1 are 500k more on you're server as well so im gonna probably snag one of these before i even switch, same with behemonth +1
also, do you guys go to a specific places to do your augment fights? i know forsure im gonna augment pallas's. cheap and they get Racc+ up to +9 as far as i've seen. i've also seen a behemoth mantle +1 with STR+2, and a bastard sword with resist stun+1, and another for DEX+2. i'd love to see some augments come out for me this way haha

One thing to note, /sam might get you killed a lot until you prove you are worth the mp to keep alive

Hello I just want to make sure you are going to continue! I am able to change servers on the 27th. I would move over to just do ballista as i'll mostly be playing 14 by then. I moved to bismark because i saw another post and got there and there was nothing /sigh So please post if you and ballista are going to stay active!
Thanks in advance.

Siren's ballista is still active, yes. If you meant the team diorama, that's temporarily on hold, but will resume some time soon.

Are there servers other than Lakshmi and Gilgamesh that still play?
