For the CE version of the game under "bonus content" bonus #5 is free gameplay for 30 days.

Does this mean that the normal version of the game is going to not only cost 50 bucks, but we are also going to have to fork over the extra 13 for the first month?

I think the game costs a lot to begin with but I figured in the $13 first month (normally games like this, including ff11 give the first month for "free" so I just factor it into the price) $37 for the game and $13 for the first month is fine for me but if the game is 50+13 making it $63 right off the bat I think its getting a little bit much for computer games where the data does not need to be stored on a disk and can just be stored online......

I don't know, I just found it odd that the "bonus" for the CE had 30 days free gameplay listed when I see it as a given.
The only other explanation I can think of would be that the CE version is getting 60 days total right after purchase...

Just the helmet

Although, it would totally make sense for CE to have the helm and goggles, from what SE has said only the helm will be given. Now, this could very well be a mistake that they just havent felt like clarifying, but it could also mean that the helm is useful for a much longer time, where as the effect of the goggles only works at lower levels.

It could also mean that SE wants to artificially make the game look more popular than it really is or just plain old make more money by having a good chunk of the population buy both standard edition and CE for the bonus items. Similar to people buying $50+ pieces of crappy jewelry for an in-game bonus items.

In either case, the bonus items will not in any way, shape or form be game breaking. Personally I got CE for the 20 cent map/journal, cause i like pinning crap up on my wall.

Because games like this always give free trial periods like 14-30 days.....

They will give you a month free with both the regular edition and the collector's edition. This is common practice with all subscriber based MMOs in which you purchase the game.

The only MMO that I've seen dissimilar to this method was All Points Bulletin -- there you received 50 hours in Action Districts and unlimited in Social Districts.

I see shit given for free as a given because it's bad practice to make someone buy a game that they can't inherently play for at least a little bit after the initial purchase.

To buy a game and to have to pay again just to try it out seems shitty. Even worse considering the little chance that they'll offer a demo and trial version. WoW is nice enough to do that, and I didn't have to pay a chunk of $$$ to find out I didn't like it.

and as for the original question, it is normal for most games to include the free stuff (like free month of play) independently per game version, even if it seems redundant. For the collector's edition the free month of play is bonus #5, on the regular edition it'll just be bonus #1 (most likely the only bonus)

It is common practice for both versions of a game such as this to say "Bonus! 30 free Days of game Play!". Even though it's common to both, it's a large attraction for most people, and it's also expected by everyone. It's just a marketing technique to trick you into thinking you're getting something free that you otherwise wouldn't lol
