Metroid: Other M

I pre-ordered and paid off my copy this morning (and probably helped some guy's reserve numbers) at Gamestop and I also started seeing the TV commercials for the game today. Figured I would make this so I could talk about it when it comes out nine days from now.

I consider Metroid Prime second only to Super Metroid in the series, so this game (which I'll compare directly with the first Prime) has a lot to live up.

I really want to try this out since it's been ages since they tried a 2D metroid. I know you can go 1st person in some areas but a majority of the game seems to be 2D.

And there's the fact that I need something to dust off my Wii. I would try achievements in Trauma Team, however Hard mode seems pretty easy compared to previous games.

I truly believe this game will be completely worth it. Nintendo wouldn't let one of their heavy franchises get ridiculed. Not again.

Team Ninja is pretty notorious for being top notch with their games and difficult. So I am expecting fast paced action and difficulty pretty high, which is some key aspects of what Metroid is known for. Not only that the boss fights in Other M just look out of this world. Aug.31st needs to come more quickly. Graphics also look like they are using the Wii's capabilities to the limit. Not to mention it looks like the game will be more heavily story driven.

I have all the confidence that this game will rock.

GFDI Vel, I just got that zelda game out of my head.

Also, if Nintendo really wants to get on my good side. They need to remake Metroid II ASAP. I miss that game so much.

I'm so stoked for this game~ I'm a picky guy when it comes to buying console games, so having a preorder down for it is pretty significant.

Not that I thought he wouldn't be.....but:

I think what you're really talking about is the promise of the Metroid series. People have certain expectations, and they don't want those expectations frustrated in the wrong way. So if you're asking if we're going to have Ridley in the game, well, sure, we're going to have Ridley in the game. We have to have that essential Metroid feeling to the game -- to make sure to keep that mood and that atmosphere intact, because it's very important to the integrity of the series. And so we've put a lot into this game, a lot of thinking about what's important.

I didn't like the metroid prime series because of the whole first-person shooter thing.. not a big fan of them.. but seeing as they finally done away with that (for the most part, I see there's still first-person parts, but I don't mind it if it's not the entire game) this looks rather promising. I may just pick this up when it comes out.

Why don't you like the FPS elements? Nausea or motion sickness problems? Metroid Prime (the first one) really is one of the greatest Metroid games ever made. Retro Studios did an amazing job and made not only of the best looking games of the generation, but successfully transitioned a 2D game to 3D FPA and pulled it off perfectly.

It was like 97/100 metacritic, if I recall correctly.

Ridley is confirmed in the game. His theme is even orchestrated. He is even shown in some trailers. It will be neat to get a clearer explanation of how he became Ridley-X in Metroid Fusion. Kind of know already, but will be nice to see Step A, then to B, then to C, instead of A to C.

I have this thing where I hate not having full view of everything around me. FPS's usually make me feel limited, and they tend to feel more boring if I can't view my character moving around participating in the action. lol It's just a matter of preference, I guess.

I will admit also that I am not a big FPS person myself. Good thing this is FPA though. When I played the game, especially the Wii re-releases, it is just as addicting as the previous Metroids were. You still had all the classic elements that make a Metroid great. All these aspects made me completely forget I was playing a first person game. Not only that, it is just pure epic in MP3 on the first area you are fighting Ridley while falling down a big pit in a space station. Very intense!

I feel Ridley is just as important as Mother Brain is in the Metroid storyline.

Well overall Mother Brain is just a giant brain in the jar. She gives the orders, Ridley executes them. I wouldn't be surprised if there was something bigger going on in Ridley's end. He is a pirate afterall. It will be awesome though if Mother Brain makes one more appearance in Other M, I doubt it after what happened in Super Metroid, but yea, haha.

The prime series wasn't too bad for FPSs, I just got sick of the visor/cannon switches all the time. The crater before Mtroid Prime was annoying if you hit the metroids with the wrong beam ><

I don't read the manga because it is technically non-canonical to the series, it could be published by Nintendo, but anything on the game can be changed at any time and will create plot holes and disregard events in the manga.

I dunno about that, it seems to me like they take the manga story stuff fairly seriously. Retcons can happen anywhere though, even in just the stuff the games show. Nothing's ever completely safe from being retconned but I'd say the manga stuff will be left alone or later brought into the games sooner than disregarded outright. If nothing else you can view them as an alternate scenario/universe/whatever if they do decide to scrap what's in there later.

I doubt this game will be Super Metroid or Prime levels of praise, but damn it all if I can't picture a better 3D Metroid I'd like to play. Game looks like it adapts the 2D gameplay into 3D better than the Prime series has, in my crazy opinion, so if nothing else I know I personally am going to enjoy the hell out of this. Simpler controls with flashier moves is something I always wanted more games to do, at times it feels like Other M was made for me so I'm hyped. Just hope it's not too short, but most experiences say it isn't, so bring it on~

I am willing to bet it is the length of a usual Metroid game, maybe longer. But game standards are not like they were back then. Super Metroid is only a few hour game, but people took it as an approach to play again and do speed runs. People nowadays want as much content as possible in their game and will complain all over the internet if it is too short instead of trying to do a speed run.

I am sure the mangas are great, anything with Samus is awesome to tell the truth, even on a lunch box. I just wouldn't count it as canonical since if there is something they want to put in the game but contradicts the manga, you know they will be quick to say the manga is non-canonical.

Super Metroid's time can vary. Unless you know where to go you'll take a lot longer than you would compared to your 2nd playthrough.

Anyway, this game looks pretty promising. I have been hoping for a 2D Metroidsince Zero Mission so hopefully this can deliver.
