The zones outside of Gridania are terribly linear, to the point where it's almost offensive considering this is an MMO.

It's like I'm really running through a Super Metroid map.

Have you ever been in a real forest before? Trust me. It's representative. The Black Shroud is a LOT like the old growth forest of the Appalachians. It's not linear so much as it is craggy and hard to move around in. Also, it's a lot more mazey than anything.

That building back there is a public outdoor restroom before anyone says anything. Oh, and that picture just so happens to be taken in the Smokey Mountains in Gatlinburg, TN. It was during a class field trip to the Smokies in Ecology.
