It seems to happen to me too. Always remember to check http://www.ffxiv-status.com/ to see if any part of FFXIV has gone down (earlier today, ONLY Trabia went down for instance.) But sometimes it happens, and all servers are up. So, yeah, dunno why that happens.

yeah its still early but im iffy on it atm, think we picked the buggiest server lol. I know Im about sick of dcing in a guildleve and having it fail....

Nope, its not just Trabia. I refresh the beta test page every so often just to see what kinda updates it gives. Here's a sample:

However, a possibility of character data being broken due to the issues has been confirmed. To prevent any further damage, we have rolled the character data back to the data from Sep. 5, 2010 19:00 (PDT).
In case the character was created on affected worlds after the above hour, an error message will appear when you select the character on character selection menu. To address this issue, please delete the character and create again.
