So the control scheme in this game is crazy as all hell in the first place but the arrow keys don't adjust the camera.... extremely awkward to use IJKL or right click to move it around. Does that bug anyone else?

It just feels as though the controls were meant for a console, I have found them to be very clunky. Let's just hope they can get some of the awkwardness cleaned up before official release.

It's sucks really bad. I am used to using Right Click to move camera around though, at least when I engage in battle and occasionally during auto-walk. I prefer running and moving the camera using my right hand, 4 fingers on the number pad for movement and my thumb on the arrow keys for the camera. Left hand being free for Macros and typing, whatnot.

I use the same gamepad that I did for XI and it works great. I can imagine trying to work this on keyboard, though... ugh.

I dont see how people play on keyboard. lol. I really dont. up straight in a chair for hours, wrist all crazy like, but ey to each their on, i sit on my couch, and play on a 50" tv with a wireless keyboard for typeing messages, and play with my controller, & if i feel like, i sit in a chair and play, & still use controller, so much more relaxing. & i dont have to worry about making the excuse "i hit the wrong key, sorry"

Yeah the shit is obnoxiously clunky. I also feel the start of the game isn't a good enough tutorial. I picked up XI pretty easy not sure why. In this one like I was popping up emotes and zooming, brandishing my weapon every which way. Got me pretty flustered. Kinda wish when monsters were engaged they glew a brighter red, whenever I walk up to a monster someone is always there and appears lol. Granted guys I have only played the beta for 3 hours but I will have some more time tonight to try it out. Overall it is a beautiful display. I hope we got some other accents going, and controls revamped for release. My buddy is using a controller also said it works great. XI ran fine with a keyboard this shit is suicide.

The only problem I'm having is swapping targets. It's got a nasty delay after one kill and the targeting system isn't particularly intuitive. So I always lose more HP than I should between kills doing Guildleves because the links get a free attack round or two.

I'm probably just missing something that I should be doing to make that targeting easier though.

I use WASD to move around and numpads for camera. Works perfect. Using the mouse for cameria is ok as well, but annoying when you enter the menus. so better to just use keyboard all the way.

when you guys log out, and your screen is black & says now loading at the bottom right, does yours stay like that?
I can log out, but once i do, i have to click X at the top because it will say "now loading..." forever.!

FFXI controls were way more intuitive. Numpad for movement, arrow keys for camera = win... and F# keys to target... Oh why have we downgraded

I agree they need to go back to 11's key pad configuration. I'm not a fan of having to hit space to type.

I changed my controls to the opposite of Abela's. Works fine.

And yes, I really do wish they would use XI's pattern. I liked being able to hit ctrl or alt+ key for shortcut. Like how I never ever made a ranged attack macro... RNGs who use their pull macro everytime they wanna do a ranged attack piss me off. The ORIGINAL set up in XI was ctrl+D = Ranged (Distance) attack. Unfortunately, as their first attempt to prevent people from tossing Hedgehog Bombs and Bomb Cores, they disabled that as the default option...

you can make the controller configuration to whichever way you want. Just when you do adjustments for camera do the motions in reverse.

Hopefully this is something they change. Since playing a PC game with a controller seems odd to me.

That and the fact if I want to type I got to place the controller down to type then pick it up again.

Still crossing my fingers for compact keyboard setup. I don't know how you leviathan-handed freaks contorted your inhuman digits to play the game on full keyboard.

In XI it's not hard. In XIV, you hit Numlock and then the keypad will work. Then you move the character with your right hand and then change the camera from JILK to WADS, (Or as Abela did it.) Then you just hit any actions you need with your left hand. My set up works good enough. In XI though I worked both the movement and camera with my right hand (Index, middle, and ring on movement, thumb on camera) and them my left hand handled macros and actions.

*edit*

Once of the best compliments I'd ever gotten was from Oraan while on Teamspeak when he told me considering how well I play on keyboard, if I played on pad/controller, I'd be a god.

I do have a habit of sucking in dynamis though because it's so boring and easy, I spend more time on KI and Facebook during Dynamis than I actually do playing >_>

I first used to play on pad. Using Macros were slow as hell cuz I had to move half away across the list to use some occasionally. And I droped the controller god knows how many times everytime I went to type on the keyboard. Playing on keyboard is so much easier and faster. The only problem I have is pressing tab to only go in what direction to switch targets :( heh

In 11 I used a game pad to move around and stuck to my keyboard during combat. Being a WHM I had to use a ton of macros.
