Apparently Kam'lanaut or Eald'narche are not going to be mentioned? As I recall, they were the true bosses of the final story connecting RoZ and CoP. Would be cool if it was one of them. And could be possible, for one, they are not a gigantic being like Shadowlord or Promathia.

It makes sense to me at least.

Yea but the problem with shadowlord is there's too many people who could potentially oppose him.
Zeid, the hume with the beard (his name escapes me right now), any of the nation heroes. In other words, he can't really be done because his counterpart hero is up in the air.

So... You're saying the same can't be said about Emperor Mateus, Kefka, ExDeath, Sephiroth, Ultimecia...

Especially Kefka. God knows he didn't screw over 14 different characters in a game that didn't have a dedicated central character :P

Zeid is SL's true rival, but Shantotto is the most popular XI character. But it really doesn't matter. SL just makes the most sense. Worst case, they could make another intentionally generic character like WoL and OK. Adventurer. And he'd be all about job changing.

Yeaaaah... Um, my money is more on Doodlebug. She'd have all sorts of unique attacks like "Maneater" and a teleport move called "Server Jump."

Pfft, Corsair > All.

Honestly though, Zied/Shadowlord would be the best pairing.

FFXI EX Burst Attack - LFG (When done correctly, their stop time will be longer than a Dragoon seeking party in 2004.)

That might be a bit over powered if you had an ability that lasted for 4 days straight counting time afk while sleeping just to check when you wake up to still see nothing.

Well, "technically" you are fighting Jenova in the first Dissidia, since it took the form of Sephiroth. >_>

I thought that was the real sephritoh due to the "I killed myself to make myself stronger" line or whatever the hell goes though his head.

Final Fantasy VII in the US was a bad translation. In Japanese it was Sephiroth Copies instead of Sephiroth Clones. Which makes more sense in that they were already established beings made to emulate Sephiroth instead of artificially created as an exact copy of Sephiroth. Crisis Core finally made the whole thing make sense. The Sephiroth Copy program and the SOLDIER program used the same method of injecting people with Jenova Cells, and exposing them to Mako. The major difference being people in SOLDIER were top of the line mentally in physically. The copies were normal people. Zack was a completely failed copy as he was a member of SOLDIER, and the process had no effect, which allowed him to retain himself. Cloud was a partially failed copy because Zack had saved him, and he maintained his personality, but he could still be manipulated and affected by Sephiroth to a small degree, but he could resist.

The rest were completely robbed of their own minds, and submitted to Sephiroth's will. Due to the experiments that led to his existence, however, Sephiroth had an incredible will that allowed him to control even Jenova, which is why instead of the Reunion happening in Midgar, it happened at the crater, where Sephiroth was. Jenova assumed his form when she broke out of her holding tank though. The first time in the game you see the real Sephiroth was when Cloud gives him the Black Materia. when I was younger I always thought he was just making a projection of himself, but now I realize it was Jenova in his form.

The game badly needs a retranslation, especially with all the retconning that's been done.

No, Cloud quite fucked him up in the game. Then Sephiroth's actual being was sealed at the Northern continent (now Northern Crater). When Jenova was released during the incident, Sephiroth used her as a vessel and took his form to lure Cloud (who has Jenova cells, and was why Sephiroth(Jenova) was able to control Cloud) to him with the Black Materia and revived him.

So spiritually, yes, it was Sephiroth, but the actual Sephiroth didn't come out till near the end of the game. Even in Advent Children, the last remains of Jenova took over one of the Sephi clones and recreated Sephiroth.

EDIT:

In Dissidia I think it's meant to be the REAL Sephiroth. But Sephiroth will always be able to try to remanifest as long as there are copies. The last little bit of 7 where Cloud Omnislashed him was Sephiroth trying to remanifest in Cloud, but Cloud had finally become strong enough mentally to no longer be manipulated.

This is the quote I was talking about:

Quote

In a conversation with Garland, Sephiroth reveals that he killed himself in the previous war against Cosmos in order to ascertain the true nature of life and free his spirit from flesh to become more powerful. This is a reference to the Nibelheim Incident, where Sephiroth was "killed" and traveled the Lifestream, emerging years later as a more powerful being.

I assume this is what you were talking about Vari, since I do remember Cloud somehow grabbing Sephiroth's sword and throwing him over the balcony of the reactor, but other than that, I'm at a blank. Since I lose interest fast in disc 2.

Hey it looks like they added Orphan's Cradle as a new stage. I always thought the theme and background of that place was nifty.

That is true he did. But this was not after he was killed by Cloud, this was after he was revived at the Northern Crater, he gave away his body for more power and became Bizzaro/Safer-Sephiroth, I assume after he was defeated he was brought back by Chaos as his humanoid form.

I think of Dissidia as non-canon, but it does make sense none-the-less.

Dissidia is non-cannon. The story boils down to a signature theme for each character, like it was wrote by a die hard fan.

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, didn't see it on the other posts but apparently now they have back up character attacks like in Marvel v Capcom kind of stuff. From what the picture shows Lightning has Warrior of Light selected as her backup and when the red gauges fill you can execute him to jump in and perform an attack.

Pretty neat.

My view has been it takes place right after or during the certain points of the endings. As Final Fantasy 1 had the whole Time Loop bit going, This could happen during the time Cloud was escaping the crater, or Squall was trapped at the end of time, or any similar segment. The way the story is mainly explained though is these are replicas of warriors chosen by Chaos and Cosmos. Alternate universe versions. Except maybe WoL.

Make a PS3 version ala Super Smash Brothers and I will drop big money on it.
