Are we going to have just what we have already now in final version..? That's sorta disappointing.. It would have been sweet if there were scythes and great swords too... even though I'm pretty sure I'm going to dual wield swords.. xd

FFXI didn't have any kind of Advanced classes at its release, either. And FFXIV is launching wiht 7 combat classes and several Crafting/Gathering classes. SE also stated they already have a few more classes prepared and they could implement them with a regular patch, but they're going to wait a bit first and fine-tune the first 7 for now.

In FFXI the only jobs that were available were...

WAR/MNK/THF/WHM/BLM/RDM/PLD/DRK/RNG/BST/BRD

But now we have SAM/NIN/DRG/SMN/COR/BLU/PUP/DNC/SCH into the mix.

FFXIV is pretty much starting the way FFXI did with this. Musketeer however will be a future class from what I hear.

The thing about FFXIV is that they want you to mix classes and be your own type of character. Like lets say you wanted a class that was similar to Death Knight, well what you would do is level and get abilities from MAR and then get some black magic spells from THM, and then some defensive abilities from Gladiator for survivability, and waa laa, a DRK you have....sorta...

I am going to attempt to make a kind of Paladin by mixing a Gladiator with healing magic. What I love about the class system in FFXIV that it is a wonderful opportunity to be creative. Now how well will this be executed? Not sure, not going too far in my beta character when the game is about 2 weeks away.

PLD, DRK, RNG, BST and BRD weren't in the game at the launch, either. They were added in patches a while after.

I was talking about from expansion to expansion, but yea pretty much that. And I don't know why I put that. I don't pretend to be smart though so don't mind things like that. When I think too quickly I sometimes type it as it's pronunciation rather than spelling it out.
