I recently moved to start college courses in a new city, and only have access to wireless from next door, so I can no longer play on my desktop. As such, I've been using this Eee PC 1000HE, and have tried to download XI onto it, but the external drive sees the disc, but PC doesn't even respond to the disc, and I'm not sure why.
Anyway, the specs are
1.67 Ghz Intel Atom processor (I believe)
2 Gig RAM
600 GB HDD
I'm not sure if XI will even operate on an Atom processor.
Level cap gets raised again and I can't even get in there and hit 85...grr..
Any input from people who actualy have experience with this processor and XI would be great!
Also, as I've not transfered XI to a whole new PC before, I'd like to know if I'd have to buy a whole new game to install it on another system (since there's 1 product code per game), or could I just install it on this one (if I can figure out how to get it onto the laptop HDD)?
Forgive the PC naivety, I've been operating on a PC that's as old as XI until now.

I can tell you right away that the Eee PC 1000HE will probably not run FFXI.
The processor will probably work but the graphics chip will be too deficient for the game.
The Eee PC pairs up the Intel Atom 270/280 CPU with a GMA 950. (GMA = Graphics Media Accelerator). It has the following weaknesses:
- No hardware transform and lighting (T&L), which is required by FFXI
- No hardware geometry or advanced vertex shaders
If the netbook you had was using the Ion platform (Geforce 9400M from Nvidia), it'd probably run FFXI. So, with that, even if I helped you install the game, it'll probably won't run it at all due to the fact that the GMA 950 has no hardware graphics acceleration.

I got my wife a Acer Aspire One for her birthday last year. We put FFXI on it so she could play when she went to visit her daughter out of state. Had to turn off most of the effects but it ran just fine.
That reminds me...I need to launch it so it'll update. Lol

Heres a video of FFXI on Asus Eee PC 901, looks like the 1000HE is a newer model.

FPS ranging from 10 to 15.
Aht Urghan AH was around 8.
Korroloka tunnel went over 20.
Doesn't have any sudden drops and runs pretty stable.
Mip Mapping 1
Screen Resolution: 1024x600
Backround REsolution: 512x512
Texture Compression: High
Later on tried Backround resolution: 1024x600.
FPS remained almost the same, but had a huge improvement on graphics.

hmm not sure how the two models compare (and I'm not sure exactly what my step-dad did with this Eee-PC, other than add a huge amount of HDD space and 1 gig of RAM), but that looks promising (if I can figure out how the hell to get this PC to download the game from the disc via the external drive- right now I'm looking for drivers for it).
Thanks for the input

Is this what KI is reduced to? Seeing if a TI-84 calculator can run a 7 year old game?
