Maybe it was better than DMC4, but no way was it better than DMC3 lol. Just my opinion though, I'm sure someones gonna try to convince me otherwise and tell me why I'm wrong..
DMC3 was good for what it was at the time. Is it technically outdated compared to Bayonetta and DMC4? Yes. But the thing I love more about 3 though is that I didn't play a pussy for half the game. Not to mention the game was actually really difficult and in a fun way, 4 showed no challenge to me whatsoever. I think the reason people like 3 the most (and I can't blame them), is because two was such a step in the wrong direction, getting back to the roots of the first one and improved upon it made all the DMC fans happy again.
Now I won't necessarily say DMC2 was bad. Was it the worst of the 4? Ohh yes it was without a doubt. It was fun though by itself, even though the game is so easy that I could give my dog the controller, he would chew on it all day and he would have it beaten on Dante Must Die mode it is that easy.
And I will never really get the point of Nero in DMC4. At least his sword was awesome though, have a replica of his sword hanging on my wall (I know I am a nerd, no need to remind me!). But anyways, that entire game could have been done through the perspective of Dante and would of been fine. I think any part of the game not involving Nero was my favorite part of the game. Not to mention, he looks the frikin same as Dante, it is like being punched in the stomach with a new character, and then pee'ed on while you are on the ground making him look and sort of act like Dante. At least in MGS2, Raiden was his own character and didn't try to be like Snake, except when he had his code name.
Dante himself is just a great character. And I think that what was missing in DMC4, he never really got an opportunity to shine in the game, despite controlling him for half of it. DMC3 pretty much gave me everything I want. Dante full game, crazy awesome weapons, awesome music, great origin type story, awesome villain. Also loved in the Special Edition, you could play as Vergil if you wanted, who was also a great character. DMC3 should be a template for all future DMC games and improve upon it.
As for Bayonetta, yup, loved everything about the game. Actually, I think everything I like in a woman is pretty much Bayonetta. That game is a great example that after almost 10 years, Platinum Games shows nothing but improvements on something so great each game they make, and Capcom should regret ever letting them out of their hands. Hell I wish Capcom would just give them DMC back. But its okay, ever since DMC4, I have come to terms that Capcom themselves or any other mediocre developer (Yes I am looking at you Ninja Theory! o_<) will never make a DMC game as good as DMC1 or 3. So all I can do that is find a way to tolerate any upcoming DMC games, but the new one has already completely shattered any hopes or expectations that the game will be good. Crappy new look, mediocre company developing it, trying to make an origin story of an origin story. What a load of crap. Really, the developers at Ninja Theory must love sticking their dick in a Twilight book while snorting cocaine, because that is the only way you could come up with a character design like that.
So pretty much the only way to recapture the spirit of DMC, I am just going to have to wait for Bayonetta 2, or anything made by Platinum Games.
