As the topic description says does FFXIV support 3D? If not why not? :P I think it would look pretty awesome in 3D.

If so does it have an option to switch between hardware and software mouse cursor? Again if not may I suggest it does as there's some games that support 3D but are restricted to using the hardware cursor only (like Sims 3) which means while the game field renders in 3D the cursor doesn't interact in the 3D environment that you have to go cross-eyed to focus on the cursor causing the 3D environment to split into 2 2D environments and giving the user severe eyestrain.

Of course I'd work this out already for myself but I've only just managed to get the client downloaded and got faced with an under maintenance screen.

It will support both features in retail, according to SE.

The game does support 3D, but I'm pretty sure the open beta client doesn't have capability~ At least, I haven't heard anyone talk about it so far :S

Excellent, looking forward to seeing it in 3D then. :) Hope the devs read my suggestion about enabling both cursors though, works like a charm in WoW but Sims 3 is just unplayable in 3D.

The way I read it, that there is NO 3d for PC, at least at release anyways. The PS3 somehow will manage to get 3d, but since it is going to be stuck on 720, and 720p 3d blows, kind of a waste. Don't ask me why they are not planning to support it for the much more powerful pcs, but thems the brakes.

3D is overrated IMO. And since I wear glasses IRL.... yeah.

3D has also been proven to have negative health effects when enjoyed in excess. Most suggestions say not to go more than 1-2 hours of 3D over a like period of days.

I couldn't agree more. I find it actually makes the experience way -less- immersive due to the negative perceived impacts on frame rate and motion blur. Its also always very apparent that its just fake 3D, in addition to being bad for your eyes. Hope this fad dies soon.

The best way of creating a 3D experience is definitely through simple perspective altering, having the game's point of view change as you move in the real world. This stuff's been out for a while, its not hard on your eyes, it doesn't look like crap, and it can create a more realistic representation of perceived 3D. It basically makes your tv/monitor act like a window into another world, where you can pear at every angle and look right up to the glass, you just can't open the window and walk through This works best in flight sims and FPS of course, but it can make any game feel 3D (eg. Labyrinth for the iPad). Oh, and its dirt cheap and easy.

Here's a good demonstration of teh awesomeness and how much simpler/cheaper/more realistic it is than the shitty 3D tech everyone's been fapping over. Head Tracking Demo He starts demonstrating the difference between standard/head-tracking views at about 2:30

You don't actually have to move all over your room for this to work, either. You can adjust the sensitivity of the headtracker to your liking so that x, y, z movements of only a few cm result in greater perspective changes, etc.

I use it mainly for flight sim but it is fricken awesome TrackIR Site. This wouldn't work so well in FFXIV though probably due to SE's absolute hatred for any/all 3rd party application.

Downside is that headtracking only works for 1 person at a time, so it wouldn't be useful in a movie theatre. Its perfect for gaming though.

That's pretty awesome. Hopefully in the future they utilize something like this.

Yar. For what it does the thing is dirt cheap too. Only like $100 I think now mebbe $150 but it takes almost no system resources. I couldn't believe that a) I hadn't heard of it until I got big into flight sim and B) it wasn't mainstream and included with support for every game.
