I've been teetering on whether or not I should buy a copy and I finally pulled the trigger. Anyone else happen to have a minecrack addiction already?
You can play a free stripped down version of the game online at http://www.minecraft.net/
I spent a good 2 hours yesterday on the free version, building a sky mansion with bridges going all over the world to random buildings that other people were making.
Minecraft!

My roommates are addicted. One of them burned down pretty much an entire continent thanks to his forest fire obsession. I haven't played it yet, but I am tempted to, if only to get molested by creepers and skeletons at night and hear the hilarious sound the guy makes when he gets hit. Drowning is best! :E

I just started my first offline game and i spawned near this epic cliff by the shore. Gonna build a tiny safehouse near the top in just a sec.

yeah, there is a series i watched on youtube, basicaly a lets play of minecraft, there's quite a few...if i had a job, id friggin buy it in a second...the fort x made looks cool, and its actualy useful...he made a mineshaft, with a walled in skylight so if he dug through into an open cave and there was monsters, he could run them into the light to kill them faster...

I managed to make a little nook in the cliff but it got dark really quick. I didn't have time to find coal for a torch, so i just walled myself in there with a makeshift iron sword.
I hear footsteps outside! AGHHH

once you DO find coal, build some dirt towers around your house by jump placing in one spot, and put some torches ontop of them, from watching x's adventures in minecraft, you can see torches at night from SUPER far away, and otherwise, the dirt towers should help too

I started playing earlier this week and this skeleton started pumping arrows into me. Then I poofed and couldn't find my way to my first safe house, it was time to find another cave.
Then I died in that cave. Too dark to see what got me. Now it's like,if I hear growling in a cave, I gtfo as quick as possible.

I tried to buy this game, but apparently PayPal and my bank won't let my debit card send 15 bucks to some guy in Europe.
Anyone know a workaround for this?

If you have a credit card, add it to paypal and try using that as the funding source.
So I was pretty far along with my tower of solitude and had a bunch of tools and materials. I started to dig down as far as I could, just to reach the bedrock and see what kind of ores were down there. Apparently there are holes in the bedrock and I fell through the earth.... and lost all my crap :<
Now I've been trying to build a skybridge from my tower to the hill across the lake, but I keep falling and dying in the process. Lots of good trees over there, so I think I'll keep at it :x

If nothing else, I love the fact that this game is proving graphics don't mean squat if you have a good gameplay concept.

for digging dyire, if you have a decent get away available, make tnt, it blows up a 3x3x3 area, and if there's anything in the rocks, it'll treat it like you dug it up with a pick, unlike a normal creeper explosion...
i think the recipe was...
gunpowder/sand/gunpowder
sand/gunpowder/sand
gunpowder/sand/gunpowder
its either that, or, the sand where the gunpowder is, and vice versa
oh, and you get gunpowder from creeper's.
also...though im sure you've learnt from your falling through the world, never dig straight down

I got the game and addicted already. I'm already working on building bridges connecting to the other islands.
Also, I dug as deep as I could and found a very, very, VERY deep pit where at the bottom was lava. I also heard some deep moaning sound so I immediately closed up the hole and ran the opposite direction. XD
I still can't find diamond or gold, but I guess I'll keep digging.

Remember this?
Well, I made a modest little base in that cliff
Heres the top floor with the viewing deck at night
The deck during the day
The view from the lake entrance
The view from the top of the signal tower
From the top of the falls (I think I'll expand the lake a bit)
Annnd my little behind-the-falls spot, where I nearly drowned myself when I was digging it out
Soooo addicting..
