With the new level cap increase, what has everyone been subbing lately? When I quit, /NIN and /WHM were the "must have" subs for parties and solos, respectively.

Is DNC as good as (or better than) NIN for parties and WHM for solo?
Is WAR finally a decent option for dealing damage in parties with the addition of Fencer, or does it still fall behind in TP accumulation due to the lack of dual-wielding?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Papoose!

I'm not as old school as a Beastmaster as many here that would lend their expertise, but I figured I'd share my experiences.

Around the time any good BST would start favoring Sky as an exp area, I'd read a little blurb on one of the various soloing guides on Ffxiclopedia how DNC would be decent. I winced as I've never been a fan of the job but recognize it's tactical usefulness, which is why I leveled DNC as a sub for my SAM. I hadn't used it with BST but decided to test it out - it worked AMAZINGLY well. So much so that most times I'm on BST, solo or in parties with LS-mates, I'm subbed DNC. Free sneak/invis + dual wield has helped a lot while working on my Trial of the Magian (read: pain in the arse) Axe.

There are really only 4 DNC abilities I've got macros for that I use on BST: Curing Waltz II (duh), Drain Samba II (all the time since I prefer to melee with my pets), Quickstep (lowers mob's evasion - helps my pet, myself, and anyone I'm in a party with), and Healing Waltz (Erase status effects). Additionally, I'd manually hit mobs with Desperate Flourish (Gravity), however after dinging 80 I started abusing Reverse Flourish so I can abuse Rampage/Primal Rend/Bora Axe + Snarl (as long as I've got flourishes built up in reserve, of course) and still have TP to cure my face.

I haven't tried /WAR yet, but you've inspired me to try - I'll just have to have a good healer with me.

i cant see fencer being too terribly useful. but this is just speculation, i havent seen the data.

a tp boost of 40 isnt going to help rampage that much unless you're saving up to 160 every turn - but it takes long enough to do that,

/war has always been somewhat useful, but if you take a look at your options with dual wielding i think its still being outweighed

DNC is situational, a bst cannot always melee with their pets, so naturally DNC is only as good as the amount of TP you make. if you're fighting something with a high powered AoE, you wont be using DNC that much

NIN is always usable. shadows will make you less of a burden in party situations, overpowered in pet parties, your attacks will get stronger, your manhood will increase 3 sizes, but it comes down to how well you can not get hit.

and WHM? i dont know. after I hit 75 I never used WHM unless i was camping weaker NM's or farming. or needed to get places fast a la teleport-x, its definitely the thing to use until utsusemi: ni becomes available though. or if your pet party needs healers (although i would let a summoner handle that if at all possible, SMN being a bsts partner in crime)

At level 80 I started using /DNC for Abyssea parties, at that level I get Dual Wield II, a small acc bonus and Reverse Flourish for those times my tp hits 110 tp... Of course once I can get DWIII with /NIN I will use that for exp.

For those events where I can't fight alongside my mob I brought /RDM since at 84 I can refresh myself, cure and use defensive buffs. Another mage option to sub is SCH since I can use Sublimation, cure and rr; however this option lacks of some important defensive buffs.

Considering the reception NOT having xxx subjob leveled usually has on web forums, I didn't mention the fact I'm completely allergic to WHM so it sits at level 1 - ETERNALLY. A personal choice and, as it happens, a sign of the End of Days if I ever level it.

For the most part, I used other subs getting to 75: RDM (enfeebles and cool for Djinn-runs in E.Ron[S]), SCH (Campaign mostly, some Djinn-runs), THF (VERY handy farming tool pre-Dipper Yuly), NIN (exp parties/some soloing), and as I'd mentioned in my verbose post DNC. One other nice feature of /SCH - at 82 you get access to Sandstorm and coupled with some cheap Desert Boots, whamo! The No-Salvage solution to +movement (NOTE: Skadi feet are OBVIOUSLY better overall for this task).

Hope all this advice helps, Papoose. :)
