Seriously though, what did you expect? This isn't Nexon, where every remotely interesting or useful item costs you money. Nor is it Blizzard, where they throw outrageous incentives at you to get more people playing. +X% movement speed would have been nice. A marginal increase at that. In a solely PvE game, according to SE at least, that's an unfair advantage. I can see where they're coming from too, having abused the shit out of +movement speed items in XI to dash across zones in pursuit of Sandworm and Ixion. You were always going to be paying for a gimmick, at best a status symbol denoting you as "one of the old boys" and at worse a vanity item with zero functionality. It does exactly what it says on the tin, you can hardly blame SE for your own optimism.

Actually I suppose you can, for failing to crush your spirit completely. I figure if you'd clocked up more time in FFXI you wouldn't have fallen for this. Well... At least they're shiny!

I just regret having reactivated my account for something rather useless.. and I'm suggesting not to do so to people unless they want something to denote they've been FFXI players...

so, my POL handle is linked to my Square Enix account, and FFXIV doesn't give me the option of copying a character name. am I missing something?

If you have reactivated short time ago it'll take a while before they come available, usually within a day.. I suggest you to check once every hour and create your character once you see your FFXI name available for import..

Yeah, but you have to admit that FFXIV's battle system is far more suitable for proper PvP than FFXI's, simply because it is more active and mages aren't screwed due to spell interruption and there are currently no incredibly overpowered things like Utsusemi. Plus there are no killer abilities like FFXI's 2hrs that just make some jobs way too dangerous compared to others.

Can you really count a 2 hour as a threat? I mean if you make em burn it, they're not gonna be so threatening for another 2 hours without the support of a corsair.

Revitalizers you could not only buy before a match and have ready, but you could quarry up a few during matches too. They're weren't really that rare I've gotten like 4 in a match a few times. Also with the way ballista was set up if you used your 2hr 5 minutes into a game, the next area you could use it at the exact same point during the match, basically giving you at least one guaranteed 2hr every single match
