I question whether that is actually a bucket or not. There is no handle, and it seems more like a shot glass to me, especially since there is nothing to provide a reasonable scale upon which to measure this. That would make the caption incorrect, and the walrus unimaginably small, which totally destroys the realism of the piece. In it's original form, the walrus was very much the right size, and most certainly had a bucket that was recognisable as such.

Also, why is he protecting himself with a ring of salt? Is this walrus being persued by dark forces? Perhaps he might find it safer to hide against a background that isn't black.

If he's using salt to ward off demons, the walrus is doing it wrong. The salt must form a complete, solid circle around the person or object meant for protection.

But a shot glass? I thought of it more as an above-ground pool. A small pool, at that.

To be honest, I wouldn't put much faith in foklore. In the unlikely event I find myself confronted with demonic entities, it will most probably be my own doing. In which case I will be smugly sitting in the middle of this bad boy.
