Seriously, what the hell is wrong with these people? Was it really funny to post it on the internet for everyone to see? Enjoy your conscience, hope the "humour" was worth it. Christ.

Truly appalling. The fact that this happened at my alma mater, which prides itself on its diversity, makes this even more reprehensible.

I hope I wasn't the only one who was aghast that it was a pair of ethnic minority students in upstate New York who are responsible for this. Maybe this is White Guilt talking or something, but I would sooner expect some idiot white boy to videotape and disseminate his roommate having sex than an Indian and an East Asian.
But, yeah, I saw this report and was aghast. I will say that the kid had to have been unstable to start with, but that doesn't begin to excuse recording someone illicitly and using it to bludgeon him to death online. He must have been deep in the closet, too, which is confusing as hell these days. Had he been banging a chick, it would've been a major ego boost to have people see that, I'm sure. It certainly was when I was recorded (with my persmission! -- that's the important part) at 18.

Was shitty what they did to him, but in the end he was weak minded and nobody killed him, but himself.

You banged a chick on camera? What?
I feel like I am being whooshed.

I'm conflicted about that. On the one hand, sure, it's easy to say he should have faced these assholes down. But on the other, he obviously didn't have the nerve to. But when you live that deep in the closet, having someone turn on the light before you're ready can be an extremely traumatizing experience. Especially the way these shit-fucks did it. Putting your true self in a small room for what must have been years can have some truly disastrous effects on your mental state.
Besides, case law tends to disagree; it was their fault.

Uh, no, it was a dude, but I was out and proud (whatever the hell that means), so being able to say "I scored - on camera!" was a rush. My point was more that taping someone having sex without their consent is pretty low. It could almost be construed as a form of rape, but I think that'd be going a bit too far in the wrong direction.

Clearly prejudice is a whites only club.

Jumping off a bridge may have meant that he did not even have the nerve to confront himself, much less the bullies. Like you said, he was ousted out of the closet abruptly and the shock was so great that he could not handle it. Sooner or later though he would have had to face his friends and family when he eventually came out of the closet or was discovered.
Was this a valid excuse to take his own life? No.

They should, and will, answer for their crimes; but no one put him on that bridge but him.

he really didnt have to kill himself but what those roommates did was clearly wrong.
the guilt of 'taking his life' will be on their shoulders for the rest of their lives. I kinda feel bad for them, but maybe this is a wake up call

i do agree with him being essentially shocked from his closet but....im having a hard time feeling sorry for him. its terrible yes, but this would have to have happened sooner or later. the fact that he killed himself says to me that he had security issues as well as he was slightly unstable.
whatever happened to just punching the bastard in the nose and moving on...hell, i'm sure even path would punch someone in the nose if they truely deserved it.

Rutgers has a strict anti-violence policy, thus any fight would have risked him being kicked out of the school. Plus, what we're learning now is that the prosecutor subpoenaed the school because they are not cooperating with investigators: the implication being that the university had complaints but did not act appropriately by separating the two roommates. Also, these are teenagers fresh out of high school and a lot of them lack the mental capacity to think of the long term; that eventually he'd be fine.
So, I feel sorry for him. A lot of us on the internet like to pretend we have some sort of bravado when that really isn't the case. Most problems of this caliber aren't really solved by "punching the bastard." I can't truly understand what it's like for a gay male since I was born heterosexual; I'd like to think I would not have jumped off a bridge. But, what I can induce is this, perhaps he felt like all roads of dealing with his issues would lead to some form of self-ruin.

A lot of people throughout history may view suicide as the penultimate act of rebellion and courage, when it may also bear equal amounts of cowardice and submission.
Going to go with the psychologically rational route, and decide that he had underlying issues aside from his inability to compromise his morality with his preferential orificial penetration of choice.
