All I see is empty forums and the few posts there are is constant QQ

What did you really expect FFXIV to be like?
(Keep in mind that MMO games like this are grind fests and they gave you just that)
(Keep in mind that one of the most cherished aspects of FF online was and is crafting and they gave us an amazing system)
(Keep in mind that FF is PVE with no jumping...aka storylines to share with friends as you progress)

Please try to be constructive as you know Dev's are constantly checking boards for ideas to please its current customers and pull in the masses.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I expected several things when I preordered 2 copies of the CE (I like to 2box), and some include:

- The ability to jump whenever I feel like jumping fail
- More quest fun in the number of hundreds and maybe thousands shareing numerous interesting fantasy storylines semi fail
- A UI that allows us to modify aspects of our gameplay using the curse network (high hopes) fail
- Hundreds of monsters per zone to play around with and come back to later just to farm fast for crafting Release: fail Now: WOOT
- In depth crafting where I can craft while working and feel like i am doing more than hitting a single button WOOT
- Chat system similar to wow/ffxi where you can chat in region or global fail
- More active fighting style than XI WOOT
- Next Gen Graphics that are smooth like aion semi fail
- beautiful music and music to grind with WOOT - still use my ipod tho - Tons of abilities to choose from so there is no single rotation of ability useage fail

Summed up... I expected a wonderful mix between Aion and FFXI ... where the game worked as intended. IF only the game play was like aion, while the crafting system of FFXIV.... (crosses fingers that XIV devs get off their rear and fix the gameplay and fix it fast. Another month like this and the game will fail 100% ... low population and boring gameplay (part of why we get another free trial month while thye fix things properly).

This is actually pretty good. Cuts down on the feeling of it being a grindfest and keeps things interesting.

I expected:

Better storywriting than the vast majority of MMOs.
Gameplay centered around cooperation and exploration than competition and conquest.
General sense of depth from the characters and game world.

Now, from what I've read, it's done all that to much the same degree FFXI has, so I'm happy. Everything else is just icing and fingerprints.

I've never been a fan of the jump thing and I find FFXIV pretty good at letting us move around obstacles (and the ones we can't move around are very clearly shown on the map/radar). FFXIV I find I can run up lots of 4-5ft slopes and it just wont let me run off a mini-cliff. Instead of jump a climb function would be nice and realistic. The main thing I hate about the jump thing is that bunny hopping all over the place looks laaaaame and its not really feasible with all that armour on for certain classes. I do like how WoW lets you fall though, that would be a nice addition.

I agree with Banter about the abilities thing. Fighting in FFXI feels more like grand strategy because the abilities come very slow in comparison than in FFXIV. The addition of a lot of conditional abilities is also quite nice. Definitely makes the grind more fun and interesting and it makes gamer skill more relevant.

no they are not.

there is lot of "blank spots" on the map where there is cliffs and such and its like a mini maze to get around it.

There are even "gaps" or cliff looking things on the map that you can walk right though

Meh. Doesn't bug me that much. Like I said, some sort of climbing would be neat but I'm pretty against adding the bunny hop.

I donoh man, i mean a jump and climb feature would be ok for the times we are in now....

Honestly I really wish the game ran as smoothe as aion for PVE style play. PVP was the only thing I hated for aion becasue it was complete craap.

Like most, I expected XI-2 with aion type atmosphere.

Love the crafting in this version though. XI + graphics + this crafting = WIN ! ! !

I was only expecting FFXI only better and so far it appears to be just that. Going in with high expectations only serves to set yourself up for disappointment.

A lot of stuff is getting addressed so we will see.

one word:

casual

SE said it would be more casual then FFXI, ATM is a longer and more pain in the ass (stuff like the anima changes, the lessning of rank points and so on helps this issue)

when SE said stuff like that it means being able to solo or party for short periods of time, ATM it is a worse grid fest then old FFXI ( looking past the stupid wait times of getting to camp so its better in that regard)

there is nothing casual about this game past getting 1-10, then you punish the hard core gamers, worse of both worlds.

I expect SE to learn from thier mistakes, right now they are reinacting them, they better make these updates in November and December relect that well and actually have a game that proves it by ps3.

This. Too late now tho. They were supposed to learn from their mistakes and not repeat them. To fix everything would take yet another new game.

What? No. FFXI crafting is not fucking cherished. It's a necessary evil wherein you spend entirely too much time and money in order to do it effectively while competing against other people who want to control the market as best they can to ensure you won't get to their level by underselling many products to force you to take losses.

That's primarily a bi-product of the economy. The crafting system itself is pretty ingenious/evil (not the same kind of evil though). I was sad when I found out FFXIV would do away with the complex system FFXI used but I guess its to be expected when so few people understand it.

Memory issues are most likely truth. When they changed the max shards someone can have to 9,999 instead of 999 they kept saying it was only a temporary solution, that's because of the PS3. If it was PC only they could do whatever they wanted with the inventory more or less. But of course their problems on the PS3 and it's RAM have far more to do with their shitty awful game design rather than the machine itself being weak, that or programming. Could be either, they're awful at both.

How's XI crafting more complex than XIV?

This I would like to know also.

FFXI:
Activate crystal.
Choose the items you want.
Confirm.
Wait for the animation to finish.
You made an item.

FFXIV:
Switch your weapon to the proper class.
Choose the items you want through an inventory that cannot be sorted.
Wait for delay.
Items are present, choose your main hand or off hand.
Wait for delay.
Pick the recipe you want.
Confirm that this is what you want.
Wait for delay.
Confirm you are using these crystals.
Start crafting using three methods of synthesizing, and by luck being able to use one of your crafting abilities.
Go through the process of succeeding and failing by making sure you are going by the right colors.
When at 100%, hit finish.
You made an item.

When I said "system" I wasn't referring to the synthesis process itself (obviously the process of completing a synth in FFXIV takes longer, hence the greater xp reward). I was referring to the parameters that affect the outcome of synthesis in that FFXI employs complex elemental interactions while FFXIV is an entirely non-secretive mini-game. I'd say probably only like 1%, optimistically, of the FFXI community gets the crafting system though so I understand why they changed it. The crafting mini-game is definitely more involved but a lot less exciting.

You mean like elemental days of the week, moon phases and that sort of thing? We're not entirely sure XIV doesn't do the same sort of nonsense (and knowing that SE didn't learn anything from XI, chances are high it's back too). I guess I don't get it, most things that affected crafting in XI (that I know of/remember) were elemental days, moon phase (I think? Can't remember if it was debunked or not) and crafting gear. XIV has the gear with 3 different stats dedicated to it, physical stats and elemental stats (I think) that play into crafting along with a ton more variables to be aware of in the process itself

Yeah day/moon element, seasons, time of day, etc. I made a nice post about in crafting forum a while ago. I'm pretty confident FFXIV doesn't have anything like it. The only thing that I can see maybe having an impact is the weather but I suspect it'd merely affect stabilization. I haven't been on FFXIV in a while though, I just didn't see any detailed game time info anywhere when I checked but mebbe I didn't look hard enough. Also, they've already explained the nuances of crafting in FFXIV whereas in FFXI they still, after all these years, won't say anything about it, which I like. I'll have to check more but on initial inspection I'm 99% positive that FFXIV's crafting system is as cut and dry as it seems. Recipes are a lot more complex and the attributes do play a role now, but I doubt they'll come into play anymore than just being "the more the better" and such. I suspect this is part of how they intended to cater more to casual gamers ._.

Stuff being secretive doesn't come across as being more complex to me, but I understand what you mean now

Yeah I know what you mean. Its hard to explain. The FFXI system's not random but its designed to look random so you gotta analyze/logic the shit outta it and such to see the patterns and they're similar to how other content used to behave but more precisely predictable. The entire system of patterns takes months/years to run a complete cycle haha SE is -evil-. Its just.... epic... was really hoping they'd reuse the same system ; ; I <3 talking about crafting >:D
