Doesn't surprise me that in hard times new types of meat are advocated. If people can eat rabbits, which taste pretty good, they can eat squirrels.

Then again, people are pussies and eat for reasons besides nutrition and survival so squirrel might be too "disgusting" or "cute".

my dad frequently shoots the rabbits that are in our yard...not to eat them though, he just does it cuz they eat my moms flowers, and it pisses her off...once my dad didnt kill it right away, and it ran into our neighbors back yard where it died, our neighbor came over and was like "please get your rabbit out of my yard" >.>

Cows ...Sheep....Chicken....Duck (yum)....deer (bambi) .... pig (bacon ! ! ! !)

regardless its animal and living like us humans....

people eat to survive and they buy so they dont have to stain themselvess with murder or blood....

Down here in texas its normal to hunt quail, hares, hogs and yes even squirel

While I have not had squirel I can assume by their build that they would be extreemly tasty like veal.... I have had almost every type of jerky available here or in africa and the smaller and meatier an animal the tastier

---------

I do not hunt or kill myself as I find it disheartening to even run over an animal so i swerve.... but i do eat meat and love it at times :)

I can contend that it's equally cruel to decide what animal lives and dies based on whether or not you find them cute. The things they do to the chickens and cows out there is enough to make even me consider becoming a vegetarian if it was not for the fact that I love meat. That and I really cannot live off of whey/tofu products.

Thats why its good we can buy the meat instead of raising, killing, skinning, etc...

Honestly some of the best food comes from what can be considered the ugliest or most dangerous animals. I havent done it but from what i hear... cats are tender and tasty. Doubt I will ever try it thought, i have had to many pets and good people dont eat their pets.

I love deer, wish I had a place to store it, let alone some mentoring so I can hunt decently. I would like to hunt wild hog though, they are considered an invasive species here so they can be killed pretty much indiscriminately with any weapon imaginable. Plus I hear they are pretty damn tasty.

I've eaten deer only once in my life.. I liked it, okay.. u.u But I wouldn't hunt them.. okay, I can eat meat as long as I don't see the animal alive.. it helps not thinking it was a living creature..
However, one thing digusts me is that some people around the world eat cats and dogs.. for example the chinese people, they are truly monsters.. I saw footages about how barbaric is their way to kill dogs.. no, it's not the same as cows are for us..! Cows aren't the man's best friend.. they don't fall in depression if their owner dies.. nor try to defend him/her against ferocious animals.. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't eat my friends...

Oh on a side note, whoever is cruel to animals has to writhe in pain before dying an horrible death..

Deer fried steak is amazing and naturally spicy

Yea I dont like the cat or dog thing since we heavily domesticated them we as americans feel the same about that as we would for eating horses.

Honestly though... you should never look into how the US does chicken and beef if you dont like how china does dogs..... I couldn;t eat chicken for 2 years after I visted a plant and saw what they do and how they raise them.... UK does cows and sheep a different way but still barbaric... but thats how the world goes round...

The problem with your side note is that we condone the behaivor of marketing the cruelty of animals because we buy it... then again we have to eat to live and all thing, even grass is a living organism. So we are all killers in one way or another so that is how life is....

------

The big one that pisses me off is ignorant country hicks.... I was driving my car to the store a couple years ago when a cat jumped in the road, I swerved to miss it and hit the gravel on the side of the road, spun out but backed into the side of the road without hitting any other cards. Just messed up my rear bumper and blew out a tire. Jackarse of a sheriff tells me I should just hit the cat... though I have the ability to do it... and it would have saved money.... did I have the right or reason to kill the cat? It jumped in the road so maybe it wanted to die... or maybe it was night and it was just going somewhere and got mesmerized by the oncomming light... so no one can be sure it wanted to die... cars are unnatural so .... should it have been killed?

Still looking back...I would have swerved

That's terribly chauvinistic (I suppose most Italians are), pigs are probably at the same mental level as dogs and they live horribly and die painfully. I think it's awfully barbaric of you to wish death upon people just because they do something equally awful as you but not in the way you are accustomed to.

I like you Kaine, but that is kinda naive. In the US, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, pretty much any live stock animal used for food dies a terrible death. Poultry have their heads jammed in a machine that slits their throats, followed by a dunk in very hot water so their feathers can be removed easy. Cows get a large metal bolt shot through their forehead, pigs and sheep are hung by ropes upside down so their necks can be cut and are then left to bleed out, often writhing in horrible agony.

Truth be told, if live stock were to be raised and slaughtered 'humanely' it would be a food only royalty could afford.

You're right Lime.. but those you just described are the quick ways to kill an animal..there are deaths much worse than dying by bleeding out.. actually the throath slit might be one of the quicker ways, the animal dies for sure in less than a minute and without suffering alot.. also the metal bolt for the cows.. it's like shooting them to the head and this assures immediate death and little to no suffering at all..

What I'm talking about are much worse ways.. like slamming an animal to the ground, beating it with a wooden or metal bat, peeling it's skin off alive and other horrible things I prefer not decribing..
China is still the country with most incidence of animal cruelty, and many times it happens not only for food but also for fur.. they don't care at all about the suffering of a living creature, instead it always looks like as they WANT to make them suffer.. isn't this disgusting and horrible..?
Horrifically, sometimes they do it even for fun...
I saw many disgusting videos that prove their unconditional cruelty thanks to facebook.. like a girl killing a small bunny by crushing it multiple times under her heeled shoes.. same with a small dog puppy(but this however may be from a different country as it's provenience is not confirmed)..

Just take a look at how they kill raccoons for fur.. (General warning.. if you are offended by cruelty and violence towards animals don't watch..)

You can clearly see some of the animals are still alive when they start peeling off their skin from their muscles... that's having no respect for life at all..

And yet, the biggest consumers of the fur (which is retarded since synthetic materials are equally as effective and less cruel) are in Western countries.

I've never had my throat slit and nor will I if I have a say in it so I can not attest to pain factor, but a bolt to the head will hurt, especially if it only hits the higher brain, because then it's the shock that will kill you. A metal bat to the head sounds cruel, but think about it. The stun factor of being hit in the head is probably more than enough to send the animal to lala land, the second strike will more than likely kill it. The other ways are sick and disgusting, but are not limited to China.
