So with me being out of the game for 18 months, I am a bit out of the loop on what gear is worth me reattaining from back in the day. Einherjar is out of the question for me but what about things like AF1 or AF2. Are these worth getting again? What about Limbus stuff? This goes for not only event RDM but also solo RDM.

I'm guessing AF1 hat and body still have uses and since they're not overly difficult to quest, maybe I should. What about the AF1 legs? What's the better options?

I'm guessing AF2 hat and body are also good though with my shell not doing Dynamis I might be paying some random guild? Ouch on somewhat outdated gear? Are the boots still BiS?

Nashira legs still look good for solo but outdated for events?

I'm told RDM can cap Utsu recast fairly easily now without needing crazy stuff like Dusk Gloves +1 etc. What's the combo on this? I'll prob get VBelt again and not wait on the Bullwhip Belt.

Basically, what gear from 75 cap should I get again that hasn't been replaced?

AF3 head looks pretty solid and skill seems to be far from necessary now. Legs and feet also look good. I'm pretty excited to get back into the higher level stuffs again.

I dont know about the newer abyssa's but you have to remember most of this game is based on 75 content.

that being said the boost your new level correlation and natural skill requires little to no skill + needed from gear, you mainy focus on potency this point.

the noly thing that stands out in my mind is having the relic or relic +1 hat (since +1 is mind and skill) with errent body or some other mind + body that may be higher then it ( im not up on new gear ether)

I have not have the time or the movation to study new gear cuz frankly its not needed at this point, nice wants, makes things easier but calling it a need is laughable.

if your trying to solo something like kirin or something crazy thats different you need specific setups for stuff like that and i have no idea what the sweet spot is now vs stats on that kind of thing.

MY SCH is in 2004 gear for the most part with a hint of 2006 ( yiget) and i still outnuke blms ( I have a feeling I will need to upgrade next expand though and ill be easier with mog snak

people brag about how theu have 360 or 380 skill in this and that and its like wtf for?

i think you want an enchaning macro, no idea what the new caps are, so rdm af 1 legs? i think? can be used

You're more or less spot on about AF1 and 2, but as rambus said, you're better off stacking potency for all of your spells. Afaik boots are still BiS for nuking, but they'll probably get replaced soon. There is an int/mnd+13 body (Augur Jaseran) that drops off the same mob as Bullwhip belt. However, RDM can't even equip bullwhip belt, so you'll need to get speed if you're serious about a haste set up anyways. Nashlegs are pretty much worthless now though, as there are pants with more overall macc than them, and they have no potency. The only thing from limbus I see being worthwhile still is maybe gloves, but that's not really for RDM anyways. As far as recast, RDM got another FC trait around 80, so just subtract 5% off of what was needed before.

So... FC IV + AF1 hat + AF2 body is 35% + Haste is 15% and we're recast capped? (Or add in Loquacious due to fractional misrepresentations) What's gear vs magical haste caps and where does FC factor in? Is it magical or equipment? Been too long...

Nashira legs are dead unless you're after the 2% haste for melee? I'm guessing most dagger soloing is dead with our increased attack from the Skill. I guess I'll have to do speed kills on Vivian with Joy + Genbu's now to get another ring? wwww

Oh, how have phys or magic -% sets changed? Still Darksteel +1/Jelly/Umbra/Terra? Is there extra relatively attainable pieces to get that extra 6% when Umbra isn't giving -12? AV does don't count. I guess the Dark Rings from Abyssea could though. And what about the Coral set?

Spell recast reduction caps at 50%, regardless of if you get it via FC or Haste, but 5% either way works the same afaik. Nashwells are even obsolete for melee pants with the ASA legs available, which should have come with the FFXI back you probably bought. Vivian ring is a waste of time, as there is a 70 HP -> MP ring to pair with Serket. PDT is still mainly darksteel+1, but you can also throw those same ASA pants, as well as -6% Dark rings (which aren't terribly common, but not unobtainable with a couple hours and some friends). Coral is still mostly top of the line besides a few situational pieces that may or may not be worth your inventory (can think of Louhi's mask off the top of my head, which you can use to off set umbra during the day and maybe save yourself darksteel cap+1 inventory).

Welcome back Sera! Not sure if you remember me. I was also banned for Salvage duping. I was only able to stay away for a few mos before coming back, but I think my RDM is even better now than it was before the ban.

I know you didn't specifically ask, but you mentioned MND in your other thread since you made the shift from Elvaan to Taru. A lot of the higher end MND gear is really obsolete since you can cap MND pretty easily with a hybrid skill/MND set. Outside of Abyssea your level has gone up and inside Abyssea you get cruor buffs.

As far as old 75 gear, Duelist's Chapeau is still good idle gear but you will hardly notice the 1 MP/tic inside Abyssea or even outside now that we have Refresh II. Duelist's Body is still good for fast cast. They've added some new fast cast gear, but none of it provides the amount provided by AF hat and relic body. Wyrmal Legs are still top movement speed. You can get ASA legs and augment +8% movement, but wyrmal legs are better.

I see this "easy to cap MND" stuff. Is this something new from the post-75 leveling? I certainly don't remember having a MND cap before the bannings. It's from stronger gear plus 90 > 75 player vs mob? Or is this because of Cruor buffs? What gets the cap? Hmm.. all of a sudden I vaguely remember 80 MND over the mob is cap on Slow II. Is this what you speak of?

It's probably in reference to not just cruor buffs, but abyssites of furtherance. each one you get tags on an additional +10 to all stats when you get cruor buffs.

I found it very useful, i have one my self, all you do is kill crap, the only part that wanted me to bang my head though the wall is the weather only crap.

other then that just kill mobs on earthday, 1 hr out of your day, once that is over move on to what you normally do.

When i did it others where doing it too though, useally i would go in area before the day turns earth and team up with whoever is there.


20 pdt on top of using a shield/sword is nice.

also this note, you might want to do it NOW so you can be ready for the new trial and team up with the other people that have it.

though it is +2, not sure if SE is willing to name +3 and +4 weapon

Gawd. I was on top of damn-near all the mechanics of things two years ago. I'm regaining a lot of what I'd lost back but I still find myself making stupid comments that, if time warping back two years, I never would have made. It makes me QQ inside.

IDK, while the weapons are good, I just have too many things I need to redo to be bothered with the "min/max" items. I need to be more pragmatic and stick with things that are relatively attainable/quick to do in order to maximize my levels of imporvement across my jobs. Eventually, I'll probably do that though.

Seeing SeraphicRadiance post though makes my heart tingle and urge to play FFXI again rise.
I STILL have some of your solo vids on my PC .(Mostly for the music )
To this day, I miss the adrenaline rush you get from soloing / duoing etc on RDM, nothing quite compares to it (video game wise at least).

Good to see you come back, I know it's hard after the whole ban thing, I got banned on my first toon too (Tempestwolf). Anyway, hope your enjoying the world of XI again! Maybe I too will come back sometime, who knows!
