Gamespot Article

Tanaka "steps down" (sounds like a forced exile to me), as well as "... assistant director, lead game designer, lead combat system designer, lead programmer and lead artist, among others." SE president and Tanaka apologize. I won't accept his apology, though, until he admits what a colossal cunt he was in basically telling the player base to suck it up because this is what he wanted the game to be and we should take a sugar frosted fuck off the end of his dick and be grateful for it.

PS3 version delayed until "[SE is] 'confident that the game has reached the level of enjoyability and service befitting the Final Fantasy name.'" Also, trail period extended indefinitely. In other words... What comes after beta?

The lead artist is still on the team. He's now the Senior Concept Artist, and they put someone else in his position of Lead Artist. The Director got busted down to Lead Game Designer.

Uhhh... Why would you wanna hear that? He'd ruin it. I think they're done putting him on MMOs.

If by ruin, you mean salvage the game from the damage done to it by the Abyssea director, sure.

I never really tried Abyssea, and my character is still at 75, but if Abyssea is making everyone in the FFXI community happy for a change, why would you want it taken away?

I'm going to tell you the truth, I do not miss the days of catching claims from Sky or go through areas where a certain item never drops, and when it does, several other people are competing with me for it.

You could call that challenging and rewarding, but I call it tedious and in my standards, not worth it. May not like it, but MMO's develop and completely change over the years, there is not one MMO that does not fall under this concept. This change which I think was long overdue for FFXI, is a step in the right direction, and if you don't like it, then that sucks, but if you still want to be a dedicated player, you are going to have to work with it.

Because clearly the only good gear should take 6 years to obtain, which upon receiving it you cry tears of joy and use said tears as lubricant to rub your e-peen with, then strut around like you're Gods gift to mankind. That's how it should be in MMO's, and in real life, amirite?

Because I don't believe that just because the community wants something that it should be given. The best analogy is this. Americans elect Presidents based on how much their positions accord with our own, but the President is not simply supposed to be a conduit for popular opinion. He is elected to exercise his best judgment regardless of popular opinion. In fact he enters into the fray to tell the public what it should think about issues and why they should support his positions. Presidents sometimes do things because of popular opinion, but the fact that it accords with popular opinion does not necessarily make it an infallible decision.

Abyssea is good for business. But just like in real economics, what's good for business isn't necessarily the best product.

Because clearly the best thing is the thing that makes everyone happy. There is no need to distinguish between people. Even retards deserve the very best because they try! We're all very special snowflakes and God loves us all!

Just go look at the DRK forums.

It's the number one indicator of merit for SE alright. Their number one goal is to make money. If more people like it, more people will subscribe and it means more money for them. Why would they want less money by pleasing fewer people?

In order to claim Abyssea makes FFXI an objectively lesser or worse product than it otherwise would have been if it stayed on the same path it was going, you'd want some evidence for that claim. You've got a few people in here already saying they prefer Abyssea and what it's done for the game, so if looking at this thread alone, just saying "It made the game worse" isn't convincing anyone inside this thread without more insight. Outside of people on this thread/forum, who knows. But if you want to suggest it's a worse off game, drop some knowledge on us. Show us all the people who think the same way you do. And then compare that number to everyone who thinks the game has gotten better. I can't just take your word for it. Until we know the full extent of how many people like XI the way it is now versus how many people liked it before, it's all just your opinion on what a better game is and has no bearing on whether or not SE should listen. Prove to SE, or anyone here, that what you believe would be better long term for XI should be done. You're not going to prove anything with opinions.

Edit: Look let's shorten this down. Let's say tomorrow you have a meeting with the XI dev team themselves and want to prove Abyssea ruined the game and they should do things the old way. What would you say to them to prove you're right? And show us what you would say to convince us in this thread.
