I'm trying to understand why anyone would consider having their ears lined with delicious meat a "bad thing." Aside from that, why are you asking that RDR and SMG 2 are on top? This is a fan vote. People would had to have played Neir in order to make any kind of judgement. Like more than you and the other five.

That's what ruins the contest.. people just vote their favourite game.. instead of voting the soundtracks..

That woosh sound you hear is the point flying over your head. Why would anyone vote for the soundtrack of a game they haven't played? RDR and SMG2 have amazing soundtracks, and if I vote in this contest it will be for either of them or whatever else is nominated if it's a game I played. Neir will not get my vote for anything because I haven't played it.

Oh no I have the whole point right here..
I liked Nier's OST even before playing it and I dare anyone to find one negative review of it.. hell, you're lucky if you find one to which hasn't been given the full maximum vote.. Nier may not have been a game for everyone to appreciate, but the soundtrack for sure has been acclaimed by many.. even by those who said the game was horrible..

However, tell me.. what's the purpose of those cathegory awards if everyone votes for the games they actually played..? (ergo favourite ones most likely..)
I never played any of the other nominees.. yet when I saw them I went to youtube and listened to their soundtracks since I don't need to play the game to listen to them.. and I remained of the same opinion however..
But I guess I can't expect everyone to do the same.. too much of a bother for them.. eh..? Moving fingers on a keyboard.. it sure is quite the effort.. e.e

I think a better point is why do you care about what some website votes as best soundtrack?

Fuck, you just didn't fall out of the Stupid Tree, you were buried under it. The soundtrack being good on its own means dick diddly. The music also has to work well within the context of the moment and the action being seen. If you haven't played the game, the music has no true meaning. I am currnetly in a love relationship with the soundtrack to TRON: Legacy and have yet to see it. Does that mean it's a good soundtrack to the film? Fuck no. I have to reserve that judgement until I actually see it.

And it's not the Web site, Aeon, it's a user vote.

The soundtrack accompanies the game/movie.. yes.. but what you're saying is that the soundtrack alone has no value if separated from the game/movie.. did you know that alot of people bought Nier after listening to the soundtrack..? And even if they deemed the game to be horrible in gameplay and graphics in the end, they still said that the soundtrack was beautiful..
So you like TRON's soundtrack eh..? And what if you find the movie horrible when you'll watch it..? You'll start disliking the soundtrack too..? You're being incoherent here..

  • That had to hurt. I felt it too.

Kaine, step back and actually read what is being said, please. You're misunderstanding: The quality of the soundtrack does not mean anything for how fitting it is to the game.

/facepalm

You're asking people to vote for a soundtrack for a game that - odds are - they didn't play. You're asking people to vote for Best Soundtrack, not Best Music from a Video Game. "Soundtrack" has greater implications than, "OOOOO! That's pretty!" The music has to work in tandem with what you are watching. If TRON sucks, then it sucks, but that doesn't mean that its music didn't work with what was on the screen. Good for Neir, it had beautiful music. How did that music work within the game? Did it heighten the mood? Add ambience to the game? Did it evoke an emotional response at key moments?

Let that sink in for a moment.

Do you understand? Do you get it? Let me point you to what you said earlier:

That defeats the purpose of a soundtrack.

If it's like anything else I've seen you do, you'll just bitch about how hard it is and want to quit.

Well thank you captain obvious.. however gamespot doesn't specify anything of the above, does it..? Meaning all you have to do is listen to the music and rate it.. since the name of the award is actually "Best Original Music"..
Rating the soundtrack the way you stated above would mean playing in depth all of the games that have been nominated and surely nobody will in less than a month.. as for me I have played only Nier in that list..
That's something the editors have probably done..
Reader's choice doesn't matter much anyways.. it's a joke and known to be just a popularity contest won by fanboys..
We'll see who wins the editor's choice.. I expect them to have at least some serious judgement..

I thought Splatterhouse had a pretty good soundtrack.

I would throw Final Fantasy XIII in there.

People can complain about the game, but the soundtrack had a great mixture of orchestrated and electric themes that went in with what was going on in the story nicely.
