As mentioned in previous Topics, today's version update will see the introduction of the item search feature to FINAL FANTASY XIV. Given the high level of demand by players for this function, we will be continuing to enhance it in the future to improve its effectiveness and ease of use. This first release will grant players the ability to search all retainer bazaars in the market for specific items.

Read on for further details.

The Item Search Feature

The item search allows players to scan all retainer bazaars within an entire market to discover how many of a designated item are currently being sold. The retainers returned in the search results will all be marked with a icon by their display name to easily distinguish them on-screen.

Using the Item Search

*Step 1

Item searches can be conducted at the entryway to any market or market area,* or by speaking to certain NPCs found just outside market entrances.
*Market areas are referred to as wards in Limsa Lominsa, rows in Ul'dah, and dens in Gridania.

*Step 2

Select the area that contains the item type being searched for.
Posted Image

*Step 3

Each market area is associated with certain item types.* Select the item type being searched for.
* See a complete list of market areas and associated item types.
Posted Image

**Item Types

Item types can be viewed by accessing main menu » Inventory and selecting any individual item to display its details.
Posted Image

*Step 4

A list is displayed showing the names and number of items on sale that belong to the item type being searched in all retainer bazaars in that market.
Posted Image

*Searches will return only those items on sale in the market area associated with that item's type. Items being sold in areas not matching their item type will not be displayed in the search results.

*Step 5

Select the desired item from the list of search results.
Posted Image

*Step 6

All retainers selling the selected item will have an icon placed next to their display name, making them easy to find. In addition, they will appear on the minimap as red dots.
Posted Image

*Icons will not be displayed if the Name Display option under main menu >> Configuration is turned off.
* Item search histories will be saved until a player logs out of the game. Current item searches can be viewed or reset at the entryway to any market or market area, or by speaking to certain NPCs found just outside market entrances.

Step 6: Continue asking for an auction house so people don't have to inefficiently utilize an asinine system.

Seriously, this is the most needless concept ever. They just need to trash the entire system and put a simple AH in. I don't want to have to search for something from one NPC, then go into the Market Ward and find the person.

This is however a step up from it's previous model, so I will give it that to a small extent, but this just won't work out right. SE knows the Market Wards are a bad idea, but they need to be relentless on trying to make it work. You could seriously stop going through several updates to improve it, when you could make one update trashing the wards and replacing it with an AH that can simply be copy and pasted from FFXI.

They're trying to make these awful wards work because they initially planned to charge people an extra 1$ a month for more retainers. Apparently they're still aiming on doing that, evident by these updates to a piece of shit system that we all know isn't going anywhere. You'd think going after and pleasing the subscribers who will be paying 13$ per month or whatever would outweigh the extra 1$ per retainer, but it's SE, always the hard way.

"i QUIT FFXI BECAUSE OF THE AH DAAAAMN RIGHT BECAUSE I R A NOOB THAT JUST STARTED PLAYIN WOW"

J/k but in all seriousness this is starting to become a problem New players that "ACT" as they played FFXI are making mess of things by posting stupid shit like this in the forums

I'v taken break from FFXIV for awhile really can't stand the fact that theres No AH in the game, also hoping for an update that will add fun scenarios or mini quests like in FFXI
Personally, i had Lot of Fun doing ( ZNM )- side quest (got you unique equipment-"tele mea ring") - ( Assault mission ) - (Campaign) really should just take everything that was Success full from (WOTG) - ( CoP ) - (Aht urhgan) Expansion and just add it to FFXIV and improve on it.

Personally i prefer AH, hell i wouldn't mind retainer system just so you use it for Bazzar stuff out in outlands
and have them immune to enemy attaks that way u can sell stuff outside,

Anyways I'm done with my rant sorry if i made anyone mad but i really get frustrated when i see people arguments over if there should be AH in the game or not in the forums
theres always that 1 retard who Bitchs because he was cheated out of his gil because of undercutting
the system works u sell things and u find things thats the point of this to FIND OBJECTES AND SELL OR BUY IT THATS WHY WE WANT AN AH TO FIND SHIT MUCH EASIER sorry for the caps but thought i should leave it for the retards on forums that u find these days again i apologize for being rough and horrible speller and my grammar bit off but i hope most get what i was trying to say. hopefully someone say it better than me ^^ thanks for reading and have good day

LOL SE... seriously?

I thought this was going to be a great idea until I read Step 6. They need to make it so that the NPC shows a list of which retainers are selling the item you want, and the price, and let you buy directly from that list. That way people still need to pay for retainers (eventually), and no one has to go running all over the wards trying to find pink stars, unless they actually want to do some browsing. It seems so obvious, that's what I thought they were going to do. But instead, I get a frigging game of hide and seek. It's like they were trying to take us to a system that's just not retarded, then decided to stop halfway. Ugh.

Good call on the search limitations, though. This way it's arguably better for people to have multiple retainers so SE can profit off of them more (again, eventually).

I agree with some of your post, but not the point where you would be able to see the price of each individual sale. I think that's retarded, and it won't work for a bazaar system.

Just come to grips with this simple fact: RETAINER SYSTER DOES NOT EQUAL AUCTION HOUSE. If they made it to where you could simply see the price of every person selling an item, motherfuckers are gonna have to undercut their shit, /sea all etc before they even sell their crap.

Auction house was good because it allowed bidding on items. The retainer system could work if the individual retainers all operated under an auction system, where a consumer could log into the auction house and choose what price he'd like to pay for an item. Depending on what the retainers would be selling them for would determine how low (or high) he ended up paying for the item. Its the same concept of an AH, just that the retainers are what supply the goods, and the players purchase from the house directly. No running around looking for stars and shit, not price hunting, none of that bullshit. You simply bid on a price (or look at the recent price history for clues on what the item would be selling for) and wait to see if you bought from the lowest available sale.
Honestly, its not hard to make this whole retainer system work if they just sat down and thought about how to make is simple. But because these shitheads care more about pricefixing, RMT, mass accumulation of currency etc, they will go to LENGTHS to make sure that the system is difficult and sophisticated, in hopes of preventing future RMT. And the sad part about it is, the RMT will still continue.

SE Fuckers.
