This week's Q&A session seeks to assist newcomers to Eorzea by covering the basics of trading and using items.

Trading Items & Gil

Q.I've talked a complete neophyte into giving me an extremely rare item for a fraction of its actual price. How can I get it from him?
A.Items and gil can be exchanged by engaging in trade with another player. To open a trade, simply follow the steps below.

Opening a Trade

Making a Trade Request

Target the player with whom you wish to trade, and then select the Trade option from the Interactions menu.

Responding to a Trade Request

When you receive a trade request, an icon will appear in the upper portion of the screen.

Select the Trade Offer option from the Interactions menu. A confirmation box will appear. Select Accept to continue to the trade interface.

Conducting a Trade
Step 1 First, place the items or gil to be traded in the trade slots. For items, simply choose a slot, and then select an item from your inventory.
*Currently equipped items and damaged items cannot be traded.
Posted Image

For gil, click on the gil button located below the trade slots, and then set the amount to be traded.
*Once an amount is set, the gil is placed in an empty trade slot.
Posted Image

Items and gil can be individually removed from trade slots by choosing the Remove Item option.
Posted Image

The Clear option can be used to simultaneously clear all trade slots of any items or gil.

Step 2
Confirm the items and gil being traded to you by the other player. Detailed item information can be seen by clicking on any item in the other player's trade slots.

Step 3
If all of the items and gil amounts are in order, select Accept. Once both players have done so, the trade will be carried out.
*The trade will be canceled if either player does not have the necessary inventory space. Should this happen, none of the set items or gil will be exchanged. Trades consisting of only gil, however, require no open inventory space to be completed.

Select Cancel at any point during to terminate the trade.

Using Items

Q.I've got these meat miq'abobs, but when I select them from my inventory nothing happens. How do I eat them?
A.Foods, medicines, and other consumable items cannot be used from the main menu » Inventory screen. Rather, this is accomplished via an item usage screen that is accessed by either pressing the U key* under default keyboard settings, or by clicking on the bag-shaped Use Item icon displayed in the lower right portion of the screen.
* For players with the Chat-Specific Keyboard option toggled on, the command is Ctrl+U.

It's been bothering me for a while now, but do we have to post these weekly "So you don't have any common sense" guides on the front page?

I'm all for giving them say, a thread or sticky in the FFXIV sections (speaking of, when are we going to get a proper job section there? I leveled Pugilist, not Disciples of War. If I'm the first person to mention this, fucking wow...) but even if I was still playing I wouldn't consider this front page material. Every single one of them has been something I'd figured out within a week of playing, if not a day. Bar a few they're not even things people can discuss at all, though if anyone comes in here and says "Oh, so that's how I trade" I may well turn this into a discussion about how they're a fucking retard.

Leave the front page for update notices and things that are important, not the fucking game manual. These are by no definition Front Page News.

Also, considering that most players won't even bother to check these guides before starting to play, SE should kind of stick all these guides into a concise in-game tutorial for people to read, rather than posting them every other week.

This I need to agree with. Why there isn't an archieve on Lodestone just for these I have no clue.

Also, KI should have an archieve for these as well.

If FFXIV is really this difficult to play, and it certainly seems like a nightmare, maybe we should stop supporting the game as it dies a rapid but not fast enough death.

I wish I could say the game took a step forward somewhere, but I'd be lying if I did. Yes it looks better compared to XI but for a game that was intended to be casual you wouldn't expect the average casual gamer to have a rig powerful enough to run this would you? And it also shown in the game due to how much SE had to rely on copy/pasted terrains.

Anyway the funny thing is this is the kind of information you'd expect in the instruction booklet, but mine ends at character creation. Rest of it is useless info on races/cities from the site, setting up the account, and controls.
