I recently purchased the new Ultimate Collection from Steam- to get back into the game. Sadly, I did not get either this promised "map with helpful walkthroughs" OR a buddy pass for my friend(We did FFXI, quit, and tried FFXIV, and now I'm back to FFXI)

Anyways- any idea how to find this? Or, can someone upload the mini-walkthroughs as a picture? I'm very curious.

Steam mentions nothing of these. Is this something that popped up after purchase?

No, if you go to the online store from the main site, it says it includes these, then provides a link to Steam.

Also- last time I was advised that I needed Windower. Do I still need this? Are there any other important things to get before I start?

Does the Ultimate include abysseea?

Ultimate collection was released after the 3 first mini expantions, crystal prophecy, moogle kupodetat, and shantoto accension. It includes those 3, but does not include the abyssea expantions.

Alright, so is there any one of the three I should purchase first? Or are the addons useless until some level?

Minimum level to do anything in Abyssea is 30. Melee jobs won't be able to hit very well until the 70's for the first set of zones, and probably not until 80ish for the third.

If you're going to buy abyssea, buy all 3. Nothing worse than inviting someone and finding out they don't have that expansion yet. But I think right now the most popular is Heroes because of Dominion Ops which are similar to Fields of Valor on steroids but far more awesome. If you absolutely had to pick one, that would probably be the one. And if you start getting seriously into abyssea you'll want all 3 to start collecting various things called abyssites and atma which will make you a lot stronger. All 3 expansions tie into each other, you really should try for all 3.

And windower is still wildly popular, especially with all of the highly situational equipment that is in the game.

So while I'm asking questions, is there any servers in particular that are still active?

Most of them are actually fairly active, mainly because they did a server merge semi recently.

Stay away from Carbuncle. It's one of the servers that didn't get merged, but should have. The population during NA afternoon/early evening can get pretty low.

OK, I'm trying Phoenix. It's been a long while, but I'm excited to begin anew. Thanks for the help!

On a side note, I remember these forums being busy, always. Are they so slow now because of the diminishing FFXI population, or have most simply moved to a different forum like ZAM?

I think it's a combination of both. The game has stagnated a lot, and there really isn't much to talk about any more other than "How few ppl do I need for X mob/event?" and "Where do I put my merits on <job>?" And I think the forum populations have kinda consolidated on a few other forums, as much as I hate Zam. Or people are just too busy getting xp/merits in Abyssea. lol

QFT, Carby is a lost cause for good shells.

I was poking around different servers and found most to have a fraction of their former populations. It was about 2pm on a Sunday and out of the 4 servers I tried, none of them were able to break 600. That is until I found Asura, while those other servers were under 600, this one was rocking a massive 1800 people online. Almost triple the amount of people.

Considering how much Abyssea lowered the bar it wouldn't surprise me shells don't get fed up and disband within a month.
