what is this crystal tools are they talking about? and why did it need 1-2 years developing it?
some of the posts talked about saying that SE said it should been in 1-2 more years in development, maybe that could avoided the mass copy/paste.
guess this is a lesson why you dont over rush things.

Crystal Tools was the engine they used to make FF14, and maybe 13 to. Don't quote me on that though.

Lose their credibility.
Right?
Edit: Their mobile/handheld games have been great though.

I don't know if 1-2 more years would have gotten rid of the masssive amounts of copy and paste when they probably would have moved onto making other zones to make the world bigger, while still abusing copy and paste just as much

I found this bit about it funny:
Yay for giving better facial experssions for characters that are just as shallow as your typical Blach/Naruto character?

The engine was developed with the aims of being able to create advanced facial animations, important for Square Enix whose games have often focused on characters, and to have a single 3D format throughout the company.

so they where makign FFXIV, FFXIII and tuning FFXI all at once?
could they maybe make that engine for the FFXIII, get done with that, then build off that for what was needed in FFXIV?
i mean i really don't get the progression or how this game could be done this badly after 6 years.

Make the game look good instead of being good and there's your answer.

I'm all about looks but sometimes looks AREN'T everything and that is all SE consentrated on with this project. Granted the amount of graphic detail is great to have but if they put more or equal the amount of effort in the gameplay as they did with graphics this would have been the greatest MMO to date.
I used to be one of those guys that always said graphics weren't important as long as the gameplay kicks arse but in today's day and age of computer power and game systems you bet it is now. I loved the game play of classic games like Tomb Raider, RE, and FF7 but to try and go back now and play them in their original state hurts my eyes lol.

Graphics mean jack crap to me since it always seems like that's what game devs go for as a selling point. "Wow did you see how cool that looked!? You know you want this game now even if we didn't show you an ounce of gameplay" pretty much boils down to every preview I see nowdays.

story and gameplay > graphics.
my first game squareSOFT game or rpg game was super merio rpg legion of the seven stars.
I didnt even know what a RPG was but I start to play this game and i felt so involve in the storyline because it actually let you play out the into (instead of some CS) I thought that was really neat. it had a bit of frustrating moments of its game play ( well just one that stands out hand to do with jumping on these vines, reason it was a problem is you had no reference point) but overall it was a good game and i didnt care about graphics at all. All i cared about was having fun in the game and having a Merio storyline that wasn't reahsed of king koopa kidnaping the princess.
i do admit i like eye candy but all that is a bonus, seeing little life in the game like what FFXI preseneted was neat, grasshopers, little lights here and there the face experssions and emotes makes the game have more life.
I do not care how detailed the general word is as much as seeing more of the little things like FFXI gave to us and missing FFXIV:
cant take much "memory" if it was in a game like that.
the only thing i see "special" about FFXIV is the face expersion detial , and how a person's hair, armor moves with wind and such.
the high detail land does not appeal to me, esp when you see the same mass 5 minutes later.
FFXI has its sights to see, and its fun finding them, wish i could say the same about ffxiv.

That was a cool video I am going to have to keep a sharper eye out for some of that stuff, I don't think half of that stuff has registered in my memory.
