So, last year, Amazon invested $175 MILLION into Groupon-style site LivingSocial. Today, Amazon is doing just about everything that it can to make sure that people are aware of it and are using it over Groupon.

They are offering a $20 gift card for $10. They're up to more than $2 million in the first two hours, which is CRAZY. The last time that something this big happened on a social coupon site, Groupon sold $11 million worth of $25 off $50 Gap Coupons. It's kind of crazy how much these social coupon sites have grown.

I really hate how marketing firms have latched onto the idea of viral marketing without realizing how to do it right.

For instance, you'd need a poster like me to come in and advertise something, since I have a reputation of actually contributing something to this site over a long period instead of being a throwaway no-name account that is instantly recognizable as some 20 y/o being paid minimum wage to be a nuisance.
