I still don't get the big deal about jumping. I get that having it is better than not, but to me it's not significant enough to celebrate.
At least SE is starting to listen to its remaining supporters.

I just logged into 14. Same as last time I played, logged out after about 10 minutes.

Unless they add an AH, make it so people are more social and do more than just craft all day, and add a useful search function I can't see myself enjoying this game.

This is one that to be honest, will be a big boost. You're on a 3 foot cliff, and ou look down and say "OH DANG I CAN'T JUMP DOWN EEEWWWW" and when they add jump, you can do the mario sound "BRIIIING" and jump down.

If they implement an auction house and all the additional (read: necessary) changes, I will definitely approve of a jump feature.
I dunno about you guys, but I dislike running up against a tiny notorious bump in the field/road and my character gets stuck on it.. <.<
Speaking from FFXI experience rather than FFXIV. Example: the stairs up to the crags...if I had a penny for everytime my character got stuck!
So I say as a former Dragoon: hurray for jumps!

Due to demand, the AH is gonna be in by March. The terrain issues should have been fixed sooner. But jumping will make areas like La Noscea more traversable... As is, it's horrible with all the cliffs.
I just wish that after Beta 1, they'd actually kept listening to people instead of all this rush to market BS they pulled.
Yoshi-P has a good grasp on what we want though. The main things hurting partying lie in the fucked up search system which will only let me search for people the same as my current class... FFXI had a choice search system. I can't believe they thought this one that made it where you didn't have to actively search was better. People like to talk to other people before they invite. I don't want the search auto-inviting my arch enemy because he happened to fit in my parameters as well. I'd complained about search since it was put in in late beta...
The AH is presently a shoe-in. I like my retainers and the Market wards are great in theory, but suck in practice. It's like trying to make a good idea meant to compliment a key function take over the work of the key function when it wasn't designed nor capable of doing so.
It's like going to a drive-thru, only there's no restaurant actually there. You have a guy behind the window, but there's no menu or guarantee they have anything you want. The wards work great for over-nighting, selling rare and hard to find things that are expensive without paying massive AH fees, and for repairing, but for actually running an economy? No way. The Wards would be a great way to take care of slow moving items, while the AH would be better for the fast items people are always looking for, like weapons, meds, foods, and armor.
But Yoshi-P has some of my biggest concerns on the list. The lack of Quests and the lack of AH. Tanaka should have realized without open quests, there'd be a problem. The Quests are what anchor you attachment to the world. Eorzea is hard to care about. The Leves are good for XP, but you feel like a mercenary with no attachment. The Quests give you characters to relate to, and usually decent rewards. Lore and World mean nothing without people to help, though.

This. And jumping is not guaranteed. If it can't work into the system, it won't be in it.

Jumping will be a nice addition. I always complained about (in FFXI) being able to fight and kill Gods, summon great beasts, cast ancient magic, perform amazing weapon skills to kill Kings, and beat the dynamis lord but damnit I get stuck on a log walking around in the jungle
As for FFXIV I think it would be a nice addition but there are a lot of cool ideas I can't wait for to bring be back to the game. Until the changes occur i'll be playing FFXI and dragon age.

Jumping won't solve a thing for me if this isn't fixed:

That aside, I'm liking this guy a lot!
If anything, this is reinstating the faith I had in XIV and I'm actually looking forward to the changes.

The problem with your argument is that jumping has been such a staple of every single video game genre ever, to have it be left out in the first place is retarded.

Many great Japanese games have not had a jumping function. Why? Because it added nothing of value to the gameplay.
Demon's Souls, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 4-5, to name a few.
