They stated that the NGP will be compatible with all the old psp content on the playstation store, which is as much as i could think is possible for them to do, not having a umd drive and all.

Agreeing with the guys above, having cartridges for major games and the option of digital download for smaller and indie companies is a great idea, all i have to be concerned about is how much they will be selling these "proprietary store cartridges" for, since, assuming it dosnt have an internal hard drive, we will need these to download games and store content.

The fact saves are stored on the game cartridges is kinda cool though.

I'm pretty sure they mentioned something about having games in some physical form. I think they said memory sticks/cards like the ones we use to increase the memory cap for the current psp's. I would assume it would be 4gig ones since those already cost around $20ish and that would be most reasonable.

I got no evidence of this, but I do distinctly remember someone mentioning this during their conference when it was just officially announced. Anyway, I'm more of a fan of digital downloads when it comes to hand held gaming, but it would be nice to have a physical option too for those of you who prefer it.
