Im planning in buying a laptop so I can play this while it's slow at work.

Can the Alienware M11x run this well?

I was thinking about doing the same thing since I'll be getting a little more from my tax refund than what I was expecting to get lol. Interested to see if XIV would run decently on it as well.

NCIX.com is your friend. Don't buy Alienware, you're paying for the name only. You can build yourself a better machine for cheaper there, or on several other similar sites. That being said, yes, it will most likely run it.

Yes it currently runs well on an m11x. However nVidia has a history of being really shitty with FFXI support and XI was unplayable on almost all modern nVidia cards, including the 335M in the m11x, up until a few months ago. If something breaks in a new driver release you'll be stuck until nVidia feels like fixing it. Not a big deal if you are only playing XI, but if you also want bleeding edge drivers for more modern games it could become an issue.

I don't play XIV but I imagine it would work with settings turned down. However that game can destroy a very modern machine with maxed settings, so we're talking lowish-medium settings here. For reference SCII is very playable at Medium settings and lagless at Low, but will throw a fit on high.

He's going for a laptop, and the m11x r1 is actually quite good value to price and starts at only $600.
