While this Earthquake was occurring, an in-game Japanese player in my EXP party last night was telling us that certain parts of Japan were hit with a lv7 earthquake. Turns out it was worse than that.

I'm sure everyone else already knows of the disaster that came from the quake/tsunami. Condolences goes out to the lives that were lost.I'm sure the death toll will keep rising for the next few days. It appears the tsunami has also affected some nuclear plants in the area around Tokyo. This is a sad time for the JP community.

I am in Kanagawa pref. It was easily one of the most terrifying things I've ever experienced. It felt like it lasted for 30min due to aftershocks too...

On the plus side, strict building codes saved many many lives.

10,000 people missing, over 600 people confirmed dead...and you're making jokes?
You seem to lack basic human empathy. My city just went through a similar earthquake, people couldn't have a shower for weeks, toilets didn't work, peoples loved ones are STILL missing...and you have the audicity to make light of this?
You have water you can drink, a bed to sleep in, a bathroom to use...that's more than these people have right now. It's still more than people in my city have and this earthquake was over 3000 times stronger.
You should probably go live through an earthquake of this size and see how funny it is after that...

I'm just happy that, for once, I won't have any competition getting pops in Abyssea.

Actually Godzilla pictures at a time like this are quite apt, if somewhat tasteless. If I remember correctly Godzilla was originally something akin to a personification of the constant earthquakes and natural disasters Japan has always been plagued with, not to mention the obvious links to the fear of nuclear energy sparked by the two atomic bombs. With multiple nuclear reactors on the brink of disaster and the widespread destruction it's an obvious link to make.
With all that aside it is a terrible reminder of what nature is capable of, and my first port of call was MSN to make sure the few Japs I speak to were okay. I haven't really been following much of it on the news, though they have the live coverage available for replay on the BBC iplayer, which I'll be going through once my Time Team marathon is over. So far the most evocative image/footage I have seen was this:

A hushed "Fuck me..." was all I could muster.
People will make fun of anything they 1) don't understand, or 2) fear. Since Banter is a spineless retard this kind of reaction is entirely expected.
Though I did chuckle when Godzilla came into view. I probably would have posted one myself if he hadn't beaten me to it.

Except that this is a freak, once-in-a-lifetime sort of occurrence. I mean, we have a major natural disaster hit somewhere on the planet, generally where ocean means dry land, about once every 2 years, but it's rarely the same thing twice.
What I don't understand is the impulse to cross-post this sort of thing everywhere. If you seriously are so sheltered that you didn't hear about this or the earthquake in Haiti or Hurricane Katrina or the tsunami in India or the re-election of George Bush before logging into a gaming forum (seeing discussion of this all over battle.net, too), you should give serious thought to never feigning interest in the outside world again. Especially since virtually everyone except a few Luddites and old people have a Facebook account, there's really no reason that the Dendrophiliac's DIY Lovepillow Forum should need to add their indulgent and self-centered thread to the mix. That goes double for discussion when far more apt choices like, say, every major news networks' website is available.

If you can't have a laugh at something, you're taking shit (and yourself) too seriously. Does it suck what happened to them? Sure. Am I willing or able to do much about this? Not really. Is anyone else that's going to sit here and bitch that I'm a desensitized troll going to do shit about this either? No, you're going to sit on your ass and bitch about how terrible a person I am. You want to show that this actually effected you? Go to Japan and help them clean their shit up, otherwise you're no better than I am.

I'm afraid you're not making any sense at all.

Please tell me I am not the first to think of this...

Disclaimer: I really do care whats going on but I figured I would find the humor in the situation. With the stocks crashing and the mass deaths and devastation I would like to actually like to say, get well soon!

Shit aint even exciting anymore its just plain scary over here.....
3 of the reactors have exploded 1 on fire
at least one has a loss of containment 4sv are around the plants
I am south of tokyo about 300km away from the plant and we detected 1.5 millirems in the atmosphere....

I hope everything goes well, someone says assuming the explosions at the 1st and 3rd platns were Hydrogen tanks they're nothing to worry a lot about, however the plant that has cracks in the containment are very worrysome.
