Ok I know this has been a frequently asked question of a late, but I have been out of FF for some 2 years now. I played from 2004-2008 and because of family issues I had to basically stop my ff adventures, but anyway ive decided to get back into the game and I have tried to go through forums to get answers so that I didnt have to annoy anybody with another post about coming back. I basically have the whole abyssea thing understood. Now I am going to be starting fresh and if you all had any advice what would it be as in terms of early lving and exping (from what I heard the xp parties i knew are a rare occurance nowadays) would it be smarter and faster for me to lv up a certain job first then lv up a job I want. (just so I can have a higher lv job). Basically what im asking is like are certain jobs still wanted/not wanted pre lv 50 or does it not matter anymore because most people just solo/duo?

I know this was semi-confusing but I appreciate any rep
lies.

First of all, holy text block.

Second, be anything you want. Right now, it's basically solo until 30, then spam levels in Abyssea. Very few people level outside of Abyssea post-30 unless they're trying to keep their skills capped or for other reasons, but typically, people just spam Abyssea and worry about any skill-ups later.

If you want to be useful at end game, level MNK, NIN or WHM. If not, level whatever.

I appreciate it.. how is pld looking, like in terms of its role and end game, is it still the tank, or does the situation just vary?

PLD has been a worthless job ever since Abyssea. Tbh, it wasn't all that useful before, but now it's really got no place in the game.

Oh ok well i'll stay away from pld then lol... how has nin changed, is it still tank in some cases or is it DD. I know my questions may sounds quite noobish but i have obviously been out a while if pld is no longer useful..

It's basically a top tier DD with MNK and WAR when all are geared correctly and inside Abyssea. All DDs are tanks now really, there is no version of tank that matches anything that was used 3-5 years ago which is what I assume you're looking for.

Hey it's been a long time since I've posted in these forums.

I just recently came back to FFXI as well. Finding exp parties really isn't any harder than it used to be, especially since level sync came out. (I quit before it so I never really knew how good or bad it was). You'll probably find yourself mostly partying in Dunes and Qufim though since there's always people leveling new jobs.

Also, PLEASE don't go to Abyssea once you hit 30. People who go to Abyssea to leech levels just aren't cool. The game isn't meant to be played that way and it takes all the fun from it. With the recent update, you get a LOT more exp- EP gives ~100-120 per kill, IT can give up to 500 exp (without exp rings). So leveling's already become a lot easier.

The game is more solo-friendly than it used to be, but it's still meant to be played in parties! I don't suggest soloing to 30, that would take awhile and would be extremely boring depending on your job :\ I didn't have any trouble finding good groups up to and past 30. Just solo with your looking for party flag up and you'll be fine.

Finally, I'm gonna say to just play the job you want to play. It's not overly difficult to find an Abyssea group. If you want to play a PLD, play a PLD. Once you find a good linkshell, they really shouldn't care what job you are anyways. You'll be able to start groups with them, and it's a lot more fun grouping with LS buddies anyways.

All in all, have FUN with the game. Ignore min-maxers. Don't leech in Abyssea. FFXI is a LOT of fun (even level 30-75, when done properly!), and I'm so glad I came back. If you haven't decided on a server yet, I'm on Bahamut and it's been a great experience so far :) Plus another server is merging with us soon (forget which one) which I think will be great. (though on that same note, you won't be able to make any characters on Bahamut until after the merge...)

Good luck!!
